Sadly my fave dj of all time has died of a heart attack today whilst on holiday  in Peru.I used to love listening to him whlist in my rebellious teens!!:(

He was my generation:  I've lovedlistening to him all my married life - he's been the one reason to my continuing to listen to Radio 1: he kept music fresh - and for the lst four or five years, Studay mornings have had an extra amount of enjoyment.   As someone else has said on the bbc tribute board - "today, the music died".  Bye John - we'll miss you - and our thoughts ae with Shiela and you children.

He'll be sadly missed. Saturday mornings will not be the same without him.

I nearly crashed the car this evening when I hear this. He was such a good pioneer for the music industry, and brought many bands to public attention that would not be given air time anywhere else. I used to listen to his late night show when I was a teenager. It was late so I used to listen to the radio under my blankets so my parents would not hear!!!!

I heard it while standing at the bottom of a ladder. Poor guy :(  No age either.

do you think if he was in this country he may have survived because of the fast response units etc??????

It depends on what level of heart attack he had. If he had an M.I. it is possible that he would not have survived - who knows.

Driving whilst listening to the radio, well I was driving to the forest to take my labs for a walk, and don't usually listen to radion 1 at that time of the day - but was so shocked by the news.

He was such a genuine guy too I loved his home truths program as well as his music stuff
