If you are not going to breed her and she will only be a pet, then I would consider speying, However our bodies do things for a reason, should we leave it as nature intended?

I would say If you are not going to breed or show, then do spey, to prevent any accident.  But before you spey, let your bitch have a couple of seasons first and "grow up"

Just out of intrest, when you say "pain" to you mean the pain of the season, which there is none that I know of.  Or the pain of the operation where they don't feel a thing except maybe a bit of a sore stomach afterwards!

I think it goes a little deeper than just dealing with a few days of discomfort post op. (Hopefully your vet will send your girl home with sufficient pain killers that she doesn't feel any pain, and that as an owner, you are responsible enough to keep her quiet and on lead excercise, even though her pain free body is trying to tell her she can leap up the stairs just like she did the day before yesterday)

Is she dog aggressive now?  If she is, then the possibility is that speying will not change this :(  Are you capapble of keeping her under supervision during her seasons to prevent an accidental mating?  Are you aware of the health risks associated with leaving a dog entire, and are you prepared to make the decision to get vet treatment urgently as soon as you suspect pyometria?  Does the idea of your girl contracting mammary cancer fill you with dread, so much so that you may go into denial?
