I have a 2 year old labrador called murphy.  A couple of months ago he just looked at me "funny" started running around the house then began what seemed like choking.  He lay on the floor, began to be sick and just what I can only describe as died for a moment.  He became all stiff and whan I put my hand into his mouth to try and unblock his throat, his jaws locked around my hane punchering my hand, this was not a problem as I know he didnt do it intentionally he was in distress.  I couldnt feel anthing in his throat.  He began to cry and then with staring eyes got up and seemed dazed and confused.  I took him to the vet who said Murphy has a heart murmer.  No medication given.  Today Murphy did the same thing again, and guess what, my hand was bitten again!!  Surely this is not  a heart murmur??  He does not fit, just be sick, chokes then onto the floor ahaking and spasm like.  Afterwards he is dazed and confused and cries.  This obviously frightens him.  Any ideas what this could be??  Regards, Murphys mam!!

I would go back to your vets and ask many many questions.  and describe everything.

To stop getting yourself bitten don't put your hand near his mouth, I understand it is hard, but kee out of his way, and keep all objects out his way to stop him hurting himself.

i saw a prog on how to stop a dog from choking its too long to exsplain but go and ask your vet to show you it dosent involve your hand in the dogs mouth  .
go back and have a long chat ask exactly whats wrong and hows the best way to deal with it .

I definitely agree with the others..go back to your vet, or try another vet.

Fits can be different in different animals.  I have a cat who fits occasionally, and it isn;t like you'd imagine a fit to be.  It usually happens in his sleep, his legs will twitch a couple of times, he'll jump up, then fall over and he's out of it for about 30 seconds after that.
When he comes round he's confused for a few minutes but then soon gets back to normal.

They are very strange things, and it must be p[retty frightening for you at the moment to be seeing your dog go through this.

If you're not happy with what your vet says, get a second, or even third opinion.

You obviously have a problem. It's difficult to identify just what from your description but I don't think you can rule out Epilepsy. The age is about right but the fit sounds very mild with possibly almost no period of unconsciousness, seconds only. The daze and confusion adds to my thoughts. One thing I don't think, heart trouble. It just does not sound like it to me.

I really think you need to talk to your vet about this although it is quite likely he/she will not be able to give you a conclusive answer of the top of his head. It is almost impossible to prove epilepsy if the vet does not actually see it and often it is more a matter of trying medication and seeing if the attacks stop.
