I think you will find that most reputable breeders will only let their pups go with breeding restrictions, most people will buy a bitch then go out to stud, if their bitch proves to be worthy of breeding from,  it's not as simple as just buying a breeding pair I'm afraid!

I wasn't sure, just had a quick look on the net and found this:-

There are four accepted colours : black and white, liver and white, blue or roan.

You do occasionally see them in working varieties but not very often.  I would be interesting to have the guest register and discuss this further.

I don't know whether my Bess (working type Springer) is classed as blue roan or not, but all her white parts are flecked with black. :)

LOL We have a lovely couple who breed ESS near us & they have Liver & White & Liver & White tris, if here is flecking in the white yours is still a black & white.

A few years ago the local golf club had a couple of ESS a dog & a bitch both Liver & White, they(like his current dogs)were allowed to roam the village & when his bitch had her first litter ar 11 months they were all Black & White, they were registered & sold as ESS, but none of the puppies would work to the gun, but one or two actually worked sheep, Yes you've guessed right the bitch had paid a call to the local shepherds dog  & they were half Collie.

Genetically the liver & whites can only produce black & whites if they are bred to a black & white. Since then she has had  puppies by the village stud(a yellow lab with a very iffy temperament)three times & by unknown sire three times. After the last letter she was very ill so instead of having her spayed he wanted her put down, instead she was signed over to one of the vets who spayed her & kept her until she died

They were working bred, such a shame about the owners who are real plonkers

That would be classed as ticking not roaning - roaning is where the black (or other primary colour) is very closely blended in with the white hairs to produce a roaning effect. Blue roan is not listed in the UK standard for ESS which reads "Liver and white, black and white, or either of these colours with tan markings". Must admit I've never seen a blue roan Springer before but as the poster has a US email address, perhaps the situation is different the other side of the pond!

Edited to correct the post to read

From the AKC standard

(1) Black or liver with white markings or predominantly white with black or liver markings; (2) Blue or liver roan; (3) Tricolor: black and white or liver and white with tan markings, usually found on eyebrows, cheeks, inside of ears and under the tail. Any white portion of the coat may be flecked with ticking. Off colors such as lemon, red or orange are not to place.

so it looks like another dog altered in the states :(
