hiya everyone, could someone please advise.
on tuesday evening, my wife was walking my staffie. when for no reason at all 2 cross staffies, attacked my bitch.
they made a right mess of her, she went straight to the vets, and i was told that they were keeping her in to apply a drip of pain relief+antbiotics. on wednesday afternoon they took her to theatre and cleaned/stitched her wounds. she came home that evening, very swollen and completly dis-figured.
she went back to the vets yesterday and they said they were very pleased with her and happy that her wounds were not braking down, and explained that they left 2 small wounds open to allow for drainage.
she's been drinking pleanty of fluids and until yesterday evening, had eaten 4 small meals, but now she's refusing all foods offered to her, still drinking. she is on antbiotics and i am now forced to give her next dose by force.
my/her problem is that she has a terrible smell coming from 1/both of the wounds, i have flushed both wounds with salt water(1pt tepid water to 1 tsp salt), but this is making no difference.
my question is:- what is causing the smell ? is the smell a sign that things are not right?
please advise

I would definately take her back to the vets, a bad smell is not right.
Yeah I'd agree - get her back to the vets ASAP. Dog bites are notorious for becoming infected as you probably know.
Sorry that your dog had this awful experience.

Hiya, Please do as everyone on here has advised and take her to the vets, I would hazard a guess that the wounds have become infected and will need immediate attention, Good Luck!
I can only echo what has been said already and say get to the vet asap. It definitely sounds as though the wounds have become infected. Hope she recovers soon.
hiya all,
thankyou for your reply's, and yes i did take her to my vet, who was in fact was the vet who treated her on tuesday.
he has informed me that Panda is doing extremely well considering how severe her wounds where/are. he explained to me that, dog bites are one of the most trumatising wounds that can be treated, and the smell is quiter natural, and that is why he has left 2 wounds open to act has a drainage, that i must keep washing out, he told me that Panda must be in severe pain and that she is expected to lounge about felling sorry for herself, she has infact now eaten a meal, and is still drinking, and has infact got herself up and struggled outside for the toilet, he told me that in more cases than not, the wounds do infact break down and the dog will need further surgery, and then the wounds are not re-stitched.
he said that the only time to worry about the smell, is if there's a build up of green discharge.
i have to take her back on monday morning so i will keep you posted
thankyou mark

Pleased that you have taken vet advice, Bless her :) I hate to think of any dog in pain and hope that she gets well very, very soon!
