My friend has just got a cavalier king charles pup, she got him as a pet but now she is thinking about showing him. he is a ruby and has a white chest, can anyone tell me if the white chest is ok for showing him?

There are no disqualifying faults in the UK Kennel breed standard but the Ruby's colour is stated as follows"Ruby: whole coloured rich red. White markings undesirable"

So yes she can show him but whether or not he would win with such a visible fault would depend on the other dogs in the classes & their qualitites against his qualities & mismarking. It would depend also on what the judge's interpretation of the breed standard was

I am not really clued about showing but as far as know they are quite strict where cavvies are concerned about colours. I am sure (but not certain) that if you are wanting to show a ruby cav then he should be of full colour with no white. I suppose it depends on what level your friend is wanting to show him.

Hi, i have experience with cavvies so i can help you. A ruby cavalier has to be complete, they can be shown with some white but will be graded down. I had two cavaliers when i was younger, both of which had perfect colourings, my ruby was complete and my tri colour had the proper brown markings compared to most which are just black and white. We showed the ruby who did very well, my parents noticed while showing that those with a white chest on a ruby just didnt do well at all. It does depend on the judge but overall it is looked down upon. I myself think its silly to say a dog cannot be showed due to colour but there you go, but tell your friend to enter the dog anyway, you never know.

Good luck :)

I know just a little about Cavaliers(shortened to Cavs but not Cavvies by most people) I'm surprised to learn that most tri colours are black & white, none of the tris I have seen has ever been Black & white & if anything most have too much tan(never called brown by the way in Cavaliers it's either ruby or tan)

Very very few of the rubies in the showring have much white on them at all, but there is as I first stated nothing to stop a mismarked Cavalier being shown & winning, better a correctly constructed mismar that a perfectly coloured dog that is badly constructed

although most say you can show with white markings on a ruby I agree that it's not desirable ! same as tri's with no tan knickers LOL or blens with lots of freckles.........at the end of the day it should be the dogs all over comformation .....but it depends on the judge !!!
