Generally the bitch owner takes the bitch, at the right time in her season, to visit the dog for a couple of hours (both owners supervising at all times), usually repeating the process 48 hours later. If the bitch has travelled a long distance (over 200 miles, say) then bitch and owner tend to stay with the dog's owners (or at a local hotel, at their own expense) for a couple of days.

Under normal circumstances, a bitch owner will take the bitch to visit the stud dog. Often this will mean up to three visits on alternate days. Not everyone has the space to accomodate house guests so travelling expenses do mount up, but that is just something to bare in mind when calculating the neccessary financial outlay.

As the other repelis have tend, it is usually the bitch who does the travelling, but arrangements vary between parties.  We usually try and accomodate bitches with us if they are travelling from some distance.  Conversely, prefer to travel back and forth however many times is necessary with our own, as I believe a happy, settle bitch is more likely to have a succesful mating, without stress.  If you are planning a mating make sure you get absolutely ALL the details ironed out (and preferably put down on paper) before you go ahead.
