my 3 year old staff bitch is always jumping on people when they come to the house.
she is a really friendly dog and loves attention { as all staffs do} i have tried telling people to
ignore her and this works on that single occasion but as soon as another visitor comes
we have the same performance. rewards etc have all been tried to no avail. i dont want to lock
her out when people come as this defeats the object and isnt fair. after all its her house too!!
the other problem i have with her is if someone makes a fuss of her she rolls onto her back and
wees everywhere then gets that excited she nips and grunts like a pig whilst spinning round
like a mad woman. we got her when she was 2 years old as she wasnt wanted anymore. is it to
late to change her??

It may help, if she knows a 'sit' command, to tell her what you DO want her to do, so at least give her a fighting chance of getting it right :)

Re the submissive weeing, this isn't so much a lack of control, as a natural dog greeting behaviour - especially when people lean over her, as a I suspect they do to tickle that lovely tummy :)  Again, a good 'sit' command can help, as when sitting properly most dogs find it hard to wee - also encourage her to get higher to greet people - we use our staircase, but maybe you have a convenient garden bench outside, or a wall that you can utilise.  Dogs wee  like this, as I said, as a doggie form of greeting, but if you can train her, and encourage her to use a more compatible form of greeting, like 'shaking hands', it will help boost her confidence :)

thanks for the advice, i will certainly try the higher ground routine, as for the sit command and the
paw. i have tried this.
you tell her to sit and she will but she shakes so much with excitement that you think she is going to have a heart attack!! then it all goes to pot and she just runs over anyway. she is a cheeky dog
and pushes her luck all the time but is really obedient when there is only us in the house.

Hello, Try putting a lead on her when the door bell goes. This will signal to her that she must behave and sit when you answer the door. This way you have more control and can ask the person to do as requested by you. Eventually she will calm down on seeing the lead as a signal to sit at the door. This should be quite normal to her as you put the lead on when you take her out for her walks and go through the door before her or at least under control with no pulling. Hope this helps.:)
