Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Burns - time to switch to adult?
- By JayneA [eu] Date 20.10.04 08:19 UTC
Eb is coming up for 7 months old and we have her on Burns Canine Extra.  We started her off on the Mini Bites but I think they were just too small for her and she never really ate properly and as such was really skinny.  After switching her to the Extra she has put on weight lovely and is about 23 kilos now I think but I am wondering if it's time to get her onto the adult.

Os is on adult and whenever we put his food down she is much more interested in it than the Extra (possibly because he gets the Fish variety but the Extra only comes in Chicken?)

What do you think?  Is it time to switch or should I keep on the Extra seeing as the Adult is 18% protein?

I have two HWV youngsters aged just 12 months on Burns Canine Extra after being weaned on Mini Bites. I will keeep them on Canine Extra until they are about 18 months.

You haven't said what breed your pup is. When to change to adult depends largely on the breed, for example, a Great Dane does not stop growing until 18 months or so, whereas a smaller breed would be fully grown at 8/9 months. If you really are unsure, e-mail Burns on their website with all her details including exercise level etc, and they should be able to help.

till shes stopped growing!
sorry i dont know when gsds are meant to be fully grown, but suggest its probley at least 12 months.

although if she starts to have any skin trouble or behaviour problems ,these may be contributed to too much protien

your best bet is to ring/email burns ,as they are very helpful with this type of thing! :)
