My poor little pooch is minging! He is a cocker spaniel (18 mths) and has suddenly developed a rather nasty niff. It doesn't linger all the time, but seems to come around in 'wafts'. It is a very pungent smell, and NOT very nice, his cuddles have gone down significantly!!!!
Anyone help?

Anal glands ?????

I don't have a lot of knowledge of cockers but I would check his diet with regard to 'windy' niffs, examine him for skin irritations, especially the ears and if a shampoo does not work I would take him to a vet.Hopefully it is nothing serious but better safe than sorry :)

If it has a very pungent and fishy type of odour it's his anal glands and they most likely need to be emptied. If it's from the other end it could be excessive tartar on the teeth, rotten food caught between the teeth or somewhere in the mouth, or some other physical problem causing bad breath.
If a bath does not solve the problem I'd take him to the vet.
