Im a lab breeder and have had a huge number of emails for chocolate labs, i must say over the last 2 years they have all turned out to be people caught up in the choc lab faze!
I was just wondering if chocolate labs where renamed liver labs, they wouldnt be half as popular!!

Good point! :-) Although, Liver Flatcoats are suddenly becoming de rigeur (sp?) apparently, so maybe the name doesn't make a difference!

Sadly what you call the colour doesn't make any difference, if people think it is unsual they'll want it. For some breeds this leads to puppy farmers breeding for that colour only. In flatcoats we have even had a liver litter being advertised in Loot, something previously unheard of. The children who answewred the phone excitedly told us, "They are chocolate coloured so they are rare and we could have sold them 3 or 4 times over". Wouldn't mind betting that bitch will have another litter before 2005 is out!
Chocolate labs were orginally called liver by the way, Apparently the decscription chocolate is comparatively new. Friends now in their late eighties and retired lab breeders told me they always used to register chocolate coloured labs as liver.

In some of the old lab books I have the 'brown' ones were often called 'liver', and I'm sure the word 'chocolate' sounds more appealing to many people. :( Liver has connotations of school dinners (not so much now because not many schools serve 'proper' dinners any more) and chocolate is yummy ...
