I've got a 12 week old GSD X puppy and although she seems pretty bombproof at the moment I am worried about the upcoming fireworks. I wouldn't be at all worried, but my other dog doesn't like them and starts cowering, shaking and trying to get upstairs (which is a dog free zone!). I don't want Dylan's anxiety to rub off on Trinity. I thought about maybe separating them so she doesn't see his reaction, but by the time he's reacted she would obviously have noticed and so by separating her from her buddy whenever fireworks start might make her start to dislke fireworks too.

Ideally I should tackle Dylan's anxiety, but don't know quite how to go about it. I realise it's probably a little late to do anything for this season, but it's worth a shot! He doesn't like any bangs at all, and until now I have tried not to reward his cowering/shaking, but it is so difficult to just stand by and watch.

Thanks

For your puppy you can only go with the flow.  Hopefully the pup will look at you for guidance and as long as you act completely normal it should be ok if it is outgoing anyway.

I think a lot depends on the dogs temperament, I had the same fear with a pup years ago who lived with an older dog that was terrified, the pup grew up to be the most bomb proof dog I have ever had, although the ones since have never been scared of fireworks.

The only advice I can give is don't make an issue out of it.

Good Luck
Sandra
