Hi
I have just bought a new dog and am thinking of showing her next year.
Can anyone tell me the right age to pull a dogs baby teeth?. How long does it take for the adult teeth to grow, and will the dog find it hard to eat  in the meantime. Will it have any adverse affect on the dog, and why it is required
in the first place.  I  have never shown before and would like to try it for fun,
but dont want to hurt my dog as i love her very much . She is a little pomeranain and full of the joys of life.
                                   Thanking you
                                                   Martina

Congratulations on your new pup...I must admit that I have never heard of this requirement to pull a pup's teeth - it sounds barbaric, but I wait to hear if it is a common practice and the reasons behind it!

I was in the showing world for many years (albeit Gundogs and Hounds, not Toys) and have never encountered it, is it a new thing??

How about having a chat with the pup's breeder and clarifying this requirement?  Or contact the Pom Breed Club and discuss it with them - I'm sure they'd be very helpful. :-)

A pups baby teeth fall out by themselves - there is no need to do any pulling :-(. Your puppy can be shown at 6 months get one of the dog papers (Dog World or Our Dogs) to find out the shows nearest you and go along to look at what the handlers do and how the breed is prepared for showing - find a good ringcraft club so that you and your pup can learn the ropes then enter and ENJOY - it is ( or should be) fun and win or lose you always take the best dog home :-D
