A really resonsible breeder won't sell two puppies together.  Two puppies will be more than twice the work of one dog, simply to keep them focussed on you, the owner, rather than forming their own pack.  Please also bear in mind that the breeder who WILL sell two puppies together very often hasn't had the essential health checks performmed and is simply seeing the £ signs.........

Contact the BHC They should be able to put you in touch with reputable breeders (who WON'T sell you 2 pups together!)

Hi Being a Midland branch of the basset club  committee member  for some 20 years, I can say that many  resputable basset breeders will encouage that bassets are better in two's and as they  are pack dogs and constantly crave the company of other hounds and are much Happier  and do not get stressed when their human companion has to leave them if they have a friend to cuddle up to. When my pups have gone in pairs ( NOT TO MALES)  and i follow their well being i find in general those hounds have ate well developed better ,and are totally devoted to each other throughout their lives ,and training is better as the human can distance themselves as the puppy is not constantly howling after them. bassets are known to be vocal   Regards Houndgirl

Would two Basset male Dogs get on?

Taking on 2 males dogs depends on their character.  I had 2 litter brothers 15 years ago and did not have any problems, but it can be risky.  I suggest that the better option would be 2 bitches or 1 dog 1 bitch.
Having worked for Basset Hound Welfare/Rescue for the past 14 years, in my experience having 2 males together is not the best option.
Yes having 2 puppies together is hard work but the pros outweigh the cons.
Houndgirl has given some good advice.  If you would like to contact me for more advice please contact me.

i think it is best that you wait til the first pup is 12 - 18 months old before you get the second one.  Quite often if u get 2 at the same time they tend to bond closely together rather than to their owner.  It would be double the training and double the hard work, to be honest you may end up with two half trained dogs unless you are experienced

With the Basset breed you may have a problem feeding leaving and training a single puppy, they crave for companionship of other hounds. Please remember that this breed is known as one of  the most self willed  and difficult to train . In my experience of having bassets since the mid eighties they are better in pairs (a brace of hounds) and of simular age, an18mth old will not tolerate nipping from a pup. Training will be hard ,but much harder if they are a single hound as they will HOWL constantly for a companion if left. Before long the neighbourhood will be up in arms and sadly a lot end up in welfare.Bassets have enough love to bond with their 4 legged friend and their owner. My seven play and live together but always crave the full attention of myself an my husband in the evening.
