i have brought sims 2 today and was very excited to play it when i got home.  it took forever to load but when the time came to press the start button up pop a stop sign which told me i was unable to play the game due to a failer to find any directx 9.0c compatable graphics adapters in my system.  i have no idea wot this meant or how to fix it. Now i have a £35.00 game which i can not send back or play.  does any one know wot i can do to play my new game which i have waited for ages to play.  Please help!!!!!!
is there any one else who is having this problem or one similar

if there is any information you need to know to help solve my diylema just ask !!!!!!!!!

Hi Lauren, my daughter, also called Lauren has just installed this game too. According to her, the computer asks if you want to install direct x9.0c compatable graphics, during the installation of the game, she thinks you must have clicked , No.

If that's not it, then I dont know what else it could be. Sorry, not a computer buff myself.

You need to install the driver - if it's not on your cd you can download it at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

Just re-read your question - does it say graphics adapter or graphics driver? As if it says graphics adapter then your graphics card may not be compatible with the games requirements. Have a look on the back of the game case and check the system requirements (minimum spec).

What that warning message failer to find any directx 9.0c compatable graphics adapters in my system. Is on about is your graphics card it is not compatable with direct x 9.0c which is the latest version the only way around this is to upgrade your graphics card. You could download the latest version of direct x but it properly won't work as your graphics card does not support it.

I installed Sims 2 this weekend and it is a very large game and yes I  had to upgrade my graphics card on Monday. Wasn't too expensive about £60.

i know i posted this ages ago but i thought i would update you. mum took the whole computer in and yes the memory and graphics card need to be upgraded as u's all said (thanks) i then reloaded it was able to play for 5-10mins and then it froze.  i then pressed reset and the computer would not start loading just stayed on a black screen.  the computer was again taken back to pc world where it stayed for 3 weeks.  the game had melted my processor. i got the game back on thursday and its great.  but not sure that is as good as wot we payed to finally playit over 120 pound ne way thanks for ur advise and hope u enjoy playing it.
