I'm fed up with people ringing and asking me if I want new windows and doors!!!
We are ex directory but they still ring about every 2 weeks. I've been told before there is a way of removing your name and number from data bases... does any one know how to go about this?

I also get fed up with gas and electric companies knocking on my door and trying to get me to switch suppliers. I know these people are just doing a job, but boy are they persistant! I try to explain I am happy with my supplier but they always have an answer... I don't suppose there's much I can do about these people, but it does make me angry as some one calls every couple of weeks! I always try to be polite, but one of these days I think I might explode!!!

Thanks for this Melodysk!  I get about 3-4 calls of this nature per week, sometimes several a day and now that I work from home it is driving me up the wall!  I had tried BT's website but all they suggested was a premium rate service where you block the last caller so I'm going to give this a go.

A year or so ago I also used the service to opt out of junk mail and that has proved a success, I rarely get any junk mail now, and now hopefully I have banished those bliddy phonecalls - hurrah! :-D

And when they come to the door, ask who they are from and then say you've just changed to them!!!! They leave quite happily then ;)

Tell them to hold on for one second - leave the phone off the hook. After about half an hour go back and they'll have gone away :-D

exactly what I do, I always say I'll just get my husband and don't go back to the phone for at least half hour and then to replace the receiver.

Thanks Melodysk, I have registered on the site. Unbelievably I got another call last night!!!!! but they did say it takes up to 28 days before the calls will stop.

I belong to TPS,i also am ex directory and have no call back number on 1471, i still get cold calls every week, anything else we can do?
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 16.10.04 13:33 UTC
Yes, get the names of the companies who are calling you. They can be prosecuted.
- By SharonM Date 16.10.04 14:24 UTC
We registered with TPS 6 months ago, the calls stopped, but now they have started again.........mainly T MOBILE!!!!  they are driving me mad, I told them we had registered with TPS and they were not supposed to call, they apologise and hang up, then the same company ring again different person and we go through the whole saga again.

Does anybody know how we go about reporting them??
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 16.10.04 14:53 UTC
Read the TPS link I gave earlier

Only trouble is on the TPS website, you need to know the name, address, contact name and telephone number of the caller.  Something which doesn't show on caller display and they won't give it if you ask them
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 16.10.04 18:49 UTC
If they are calling you then they want to sell you something...if they want to sell you something, they HAVE to tell you what it is ...ipso facto ;) :D

Plus you already said it is mainly TMobile
- By Lea Date 16.10.04 19:19 UTC
And you just make sure you sound really interested and get all the information you need to report them, and then tell them what you are going to do and put the phone down :D :D :D

TPS need the telephone number of the company, plus the name of the person you are speaking to, their full address and postal code...........none of which they will give you when they start their sales talk..........we tried this today when they called again for the 5th time in 2 days, as soon as you tell them you are registered with TPS they apologise and hang up, then within a couple of hours somebody else in the same company calls again!

How many people do you know that start their conversations giving their own name, address and telephone number..........;-) especially when they are trying to sell you something

Be patient - it takes a while! We were getting umpteen cold calls, then we registered with TPS and they started tailing off. With each call we interrupted their spiel and said "Do you realise this number is registered with the TPS?" and they apologised and hung up instantly. After about 4 months we noticed our evenings were free of calls ...

ALso ACR Anonymous Call Rejection Facility is available for a fee for those callers who withold numbers which cold callers generally do.  I now have no unsolicited calls at all.

You can do the same with mail and faxes.
- By Lea Date 17.10.04 12:26 UTC
Only problem with that is, I have number number witheld and ex directory, for very good reasons. And cannot always remember to put 141(?)and can never remember the number to put in either!!!!!! in front to unwithold my number!!!!! So I wouldnt be able to gfet through to people if they did that :(

I can't do that either, as I have people phoning for puppies............we are ex-directory and have been on TPS for 6 months, but the calls have started again.
