Nothings gone right since I added Norton Personal firewall and anti virus to my pc. Everytime I'm on line a 'programe control' pops up wit "HBINST\EXE is attempting to access internet" then programe: C;\PROGRAM FILESZHOTBAR\BIN4.4.2.0\HBINST.EXE, followed by 'what do you want to do?' with the options block, permit. I keep blocking but it pops up every 10 seconds and its really getting on my nerves (typing this is a nightmare) I'm also getting a lot of pop ups on CD which I have never had before. Anyone help me please. I feel like uninstalling it as I never had these problems before. And its took ages to even get on here tonight because of this :( Any help appreciated Dee
and another thing, my pc keeps connecting itself to the internet!! also that 'earthy' looking thing has just told me 'Rule default block Netbus Trojan Horse matched' !!! help
I'm using Norton Firewall and Anti-virus but don't have those problems, have you in the past installed the hotbar program, to give you emoticons and stationery for outlook express?? if so, that is your problem it is full of spyware. Try uninstalling it, then run adaware as Melodysk suggested.
I made the mistake of down loading the hotbar program from this site:- http://hotbar.com/install/sp2NoInstall.asp I ended up formatting, even using Adaware, Ultrawincleaner and Spybot something still wasn't right, so I made a clean start and cleared the lot!
Our PC was completely infested with spyware and malaware, the homepage had been hi-jacked and we had unwanted toolbars at the top of the screen. I went here:
Thank you all very much for your help, I shall have a go at this now. I have got the afore mentioned toolbars which will be the first to go. I unistalled the personal firewall last night as it really did drive me up the wall even when not on line and I couldn't even leave the room without it re-connecting itself! Perhaps when Ive worked my way through everyones advice I can install it again? Once again thanks. :)
Whistl I can sympathise wiht your problem I just wanted to say "Oh the joys of having an Apple Mac!" We few Apple fans are almost virus free - as all the ones out there target microsoft!
I use both Adaware and Spybot to keep adware under control although the latest version of Adaware finds most things on its own, unlike the earlier versions. I had so much trouble with Norton Firewall blocking programs I wanted to use that I eventually dumped it and now use Zonealarm which I find is far better and far easier to set up.
