Americans are bigger.

The amstaff is taller, and more closely related to the american pitbull - in some areas of america they are registered as both an Amstaff and a pit.

right they both come form the same dog the 'bull and terrier' but after the stafford went to america it was crossed with something else, which then made it the amstafford, which was taller weighed more and had a lot more dog aggrestion, the pit and amstafford is one in the same dog but have going down diffrent lines one for working (what ever that is!) the PIT BULL and the other for show Amstafford. just like a lot of other breeds like the lab (the show dog looks a little diffrent from the working dog). the main difrence is the Amstafford can be tall (but not always) but there is another dog in the make up of the Amstafford. and that is what makes the diffrent.
Staffordshire bull terrier 14"-16" 32lb - 38lb
American stafforedshire terrier 18" - 22" (i think) 48lb - 55lb and up

Bobby
