Topic Dog Boards / General / Border Terriers - no fleas
- By sugar [in] Date 14.10.04 22:04 UTC
A lady told me today ( while on the defleaing / worming topic ) that her dogs never get fleas. Apparently Border Terriers dont because the fleas dont like the wirey / oily coats so just leave the dog as soon as they hop on. Is this true or just a complete load of nonsense - i personally dont believe it at all!  By the way this lady is a Border Terrier breeder !!!!

Unfortunately although I wish it were true, its a load of nonsense.  My lot get fleas the same as any other dog, if they have been in contact with them.

Plus my Borders do not have oily coats they have hard wiry dry coats!!!!

Not wishing to butt in here - but my BT doesn't appear to have had any fleas since I got him. I check him but nothing apparent. I'm surprised because I've got a cat who does sometimes suffer but the dog never seems to get them.  Just lucky I suppose or maybe its because he hardly ever comes into contact with other dogs?

Not to say of course he hasn't got them lurking and I've just not spotted them!

I wish it was true too .... maybe its one of those Borders that stays indoors ALL the time & just comes out to win at shows....

Geoff :)
