Tonight we have taken a lovely choc boy in to our rescue he was in a home for 11 months of his   short life  then his owner put him in loot and in the last three weeks has had four homes :(   :(    these papers are a great attraction for people who have no idea the commitment involved then pass them on :(  :(

Theres a woman on another forum who has taken on a very old Lab that she came across in rescue kennels, dont know his circumstances but from what i can gather hes in pretty bad shape.

- By MollMoo Date 12.10.04 22:16 UTC
I dont know wether it was lab rescue or wether it was a local rescue kennel to where she lives.

Breaks my heart to even think about all those poor dogs

There should really be some sort of rule about what people can advertise in these sorts of papers-it's so irresponsible :(

11 years ao i knew nothing about dogs only that i wanted a yorkie ,i bought my first yorkie from loot when sadly he died at the age of 11 in march 2004 it really broke my heart badly and to me he was one in a million .
i would never buy from loot now though only a reptuable breeder i could not help mentioning hope you dont mind it bought back memories when i saw loot mentioned
it is very sad  your right that loot is not a safe place to rehome a dog.

The onus should really be on those selling.
Perhaps they did not care enough about vetting the people that answered the advert?
Also perhaps they weren't honest with the problems or reason for rehoming the dog?

I have advertised two pups from my one and only litter that I bred 3 years ago in
the freeadds, but I put in my ad that homes would be vetted.
Yes I got some really iffy responses and I turned alot of people away without even
seeing them. But the one person who passed the telephone vetting and then meeting
them and vetting their home well you can't ask for a better home.
I had other responses that I passed on to other breeders and they too were fantastic homes.

Poor Lab though and thankfully maybe he will find his forever home through a caring rescue who
will vet people to ensure suitability.

Makes you sad doesn't it an add in the free paper by me yesterday;

"Dog approx 11 free to good home room needed for puppy" Before you say anything yes  did phone and he was gone. :(

Not sure of the breed or anything all they said on the phone (a mobile) was "The black dogs gone" and put the phone down. Breaks your heart doesn't it. I can only hope the home the dog/bitch has found is better than the one he left.
Karen :(

That's one of the most appalling things I've ever heard, Karen! :( I'm sat here absolutely fuming with rage.

That's just callous and uncaring :(

I love my veterans, and if I didn't have a really bossy dominant bitch then I'd adopt
another oldie Boxer at the drop of a hat. My old girl died three years ago aged 10 and I still miss
her like crazy. Still my bossy dominant bitch is now 6yo and going grey, but not growing old gracefully.....

It really tugs at the heart strings and makes you fume when you hear of someone abandoning an oldie because
they don't suit their lifestyle anymore :(

I'm with Boxacrazy on this one, free ads papers can be useful. I've sold various ponies through them as the kids have outgrown them and I have always turned away people who I didn't think we 'right' for the individual animal. The onus is on the seller. Please don't suggest I should have kept them all :D Dogs are for life but ponies are outgrown and still have many years of life left in them for another child to enjoy! (I would have kept them all if I could but OH put his foot down when we got to 6!!!)

Totally agree with you Mattie, think most folk will share thoughts with you.

There isn't a lot of puppies around in my breed at the moment (from good breeders that is) and these ad papers and internet free ads are full of them and always from the same places etc. So sad. :-(

I had one in at the weekend, I was trimming it and it was at least twice the size it should be.   I was in a nice way kidding them on that I would have to charge them double the price :-) but just in fun not in a mean way. They had paid good money for the dog. They people knew they were robbed.  How often do you hear " WE didn't know".....   When I hear this I could scream some days.

A lady who works in one of our offices just announced she had bought a 7 week old choc lab and admitted it was from a PF but " she couldn't leave it behind" . She said she passed the kennel and was drawn to go in.. UUUuuurrrgggggghhh...   When will people wake up and see everytime they buy they make place for another litter.

We bought Glazby out of a free ad in the paper - I almost consider it a resue considering that you never know who else may have ended up with him.

It was a very strange story we were told.  The man I spoke to on the phone initially said that he loved dogs and had had a lab until recently but it died of old age.

When I asked why they were selling Scratch (Glaz's name at the time) he said that it was against their religion to have dogs and as it was near their festive period his wife's family were refusing to come and it was a case of the dog or his wife!!

Was very strange though that he didn't know this already if it was part of his religion and how did he manage to have a Lab previously with no problems???

It didn't ring true to us but we went to see Glaz, fell in love and took him home with us then and there.  We've never had a  single problem with him and my only slight regret is that we never knew him from puppyhood - I'd have loved to have seen him in his first 12 months!!  :D
