I'll accept an apology for your rudeness.

I still think that you don't know about a breed when you only have experience of two, which are very close to each other in age, espcecially with a breed as "difficutl" as an Akita.  Are these your first dogs?  Apart from the cross that didn't work out - it really sticks in my throat that you would rehome the dog you had first.

From what I've read, you don't know about the breed and you are going totally the wrong way about finding out from knowledgeable people like Akita_lover.  It doesn't matter what anyone says anyway, you will do what you want :(

btw, you didn't used to post on petplanet did you?

I think not!  The Kennel Club breed Standard states "tends to show dominance over other dogs"
That does not mean attack any dog that passes in the street with a bone!

I have met many Overhill Akita and none were a problem when surrounded by other dogs at a dog show.
What your post does demonstrate is that you cannot contol your dog in public place!
- By akita_lover [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:26 UTC
Val,

Well said, Overhill have beautiful akita's, and true to your word they don't go attacking other dogs :-). AKITA_LEE take our advice, do not breed these dogs.
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:30 UTC
So an 'Overhill Akita' would not attack another dog if it's quietly chomping on a bone or eating it's meal and another, stranger dog, comes in trying to take it??

I'm not making out my Akita attacks every dog you know, it DOES show dominance, but only attacks when provoked..?>? I'm so misunderstood here!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:36 UTC
Akita_Lee, we are doing our best to understand what you're telling us! I genuinely can't understand the circumstances when your dog bit another dog's throat. Which dog had the bone? Where did this happen? I can't imagine your dog would be gnawing a bone in a public place for a 'stranger' dog to go past, so that means the strange dog had the bone and was attacked ...

You may think these details are irrelevent but they in fact are vital to explain the situation.

It's simple, I had my dog out and gave him a bone on the derelict path where he always rests ON HIS LEAD,  in the park when some dog off the lead came and tried stealing it?? what's so unbelievable about him going for it?? And the 'hole in throat' happened to my bitch cross breed in house, after 16 months of taking food off the akita
- By poppynurse [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:37 UTC
As I understand it your dog attacked another that happened to be passing with food in it's mouth? And caused it serious damage? It also attacked your crossbred bitch several times? I'm trying to understand your position but am struggling....
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:46 UTC
No my dog attacked the only dog it EVER has outside when HE had a bone! and this dog tried taking it! not abnormal if u ask me!

And with regards to the cros breed, only when trying to take his food!
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:48 UTC
Why take a dog, which is food aggressive/protective for a walk with a BONE???
- By poppynurse [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:53 UTC
My point exactly!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:51 UTC
Please don't think I'm picking on you, because I'm only trying to understand. Was your dog out in public with a bone before or after it had attacked your crossbreed bitch over food issues?
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 14:01 UTC
Before! See people don't understand and are just assuming that I want to breed Akita's that kill other dogs haha!!!

My dog simply went for a STRAY dog who tried to steal his bone when he was on a DERELICT path where I always take him where he rests with his bone........forgive me everyone, I'll have the killer euthanised first thing tomorrow!! hahaha
- By poppynurse [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:29 UTC
If I was the owner of the dog that was attacked I'd be taking legal action against you for not being in control of your dogs, where were you while your dog attacked this other dog?
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:42 UTC
Well my dog was on a path in park, on his lead, when another dog comes trotting over, off the lead, park clearly signed 'keep dogs on lead' and tries to blatantly steal my dogs bone, and you'd then take legal action? you'd get laughed out of court!
- By poppynurse [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:48 UTC
The impression I got from your first post was that your dog wanted the other dogs bone. But I think you'd find a court wouldn't laugh at a civil case for damages if a large vets bill was incurred as a result of your dogs aggression. If you know he's food possessive why on earth let him have food while he's out and about - it sounds like you're just asking for trouble.
- By Val [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:51 UTC
The written word can often be misunderstood!
Do I understand correctly that you had YOUR Akita, in the park, on a lead - with a bone?????????
- By akita_lover [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:43 UTC
The dogs need to re-homed with someone who can controll them. There is just no way any of my Akita's would attack another dog passing with food. And IF it did, i'm sorry but i would have to muzzle the dog everywhere it went until i found another solution! That could have been a young child passing with an ice cream in its hand!
- By akita_lover [gb] Date 13.10.04 13:53 UTC
why take a food aggressive akita into a public place with a bone???????????????
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 14:03 UTC
see you're just a total d*ck head if you ask me, what the hell are you on about my dog attacked another passing with food??? what a complete w*n*er !!!

My dog was on the path where nobody goes coz you can't get anywhere along it, eating his bone having a rest and a stray dog went in for the bone??? facts right first Mr Wind Up!!!
- By akita_lover [gb] Date 13.10.04 14:09 UTC
YOUR dog sat with his bone attacked another dog passing!!! NO SHOULDN'T HAPPEN! And obviously this road can be accessed or you and your dog wouldn't have been on it! Oh and its Mrs Wind up to you.

Take note of what others are saying to you.
- By Akita_Lee [gb] Date 13.10.04 14:13 UTC
Well you take note of the fact I said you can't GET anywhere off this path, it leads up to nowhere, a wall!! So nobody goest up there, and my dog was on lead if they did and so should there's? am I right?

With regards to this 'attack' which has been blown so much out of proportion by idiots like yourself, it was not a dog passing, it was a dog off its lead alone, come up, and physically put it's mouth around my dogs bone? your dogs wouldn't react?

And when we say attack we mean a growl and a bark to everyone reading, apart from these incompetent ones who think it as a murder!!!

haha god!!
- By akita_lover [gb] Date 13.10.04 14:16 UTC
Explain your situation better fist off and mistakes wouldn't be made. Read back, am i the only one getting confused? No.

Just don't give your food aggressive dog food when he's out, there will be no problem then.

I'm going my head is whirling, good luck with your dog(s)
