I'm planning to wear for my son's next year, the same suit that I wore for hubby's nephew's wedding - plainish, linen :) Mind you, boys tend not to notice these things :D

I had intended to wear the Suit that I wore to my Sons Wedding in June, but have continued to loose weight and have dropped two more dress sizes, it was the wrong colour for this time of year though really (Cream)

The wedding suit was a trouser suit - have seen a lovely skirt suit in Wallis it is a lovely deep red, but just wondering if a suit is OTT for this sort of thing or not.  Men have it so easy - mind you hubby is thinking of buying a new tie!!! Wow.

If it was me, I think I would ask if the daughter has any preference....after all, you want to wear something that you are comfy in as well as something she will be happy to see you in :)

Most graduation ceremonies seem to be fairly formal, with men in suits and women in fairly smart dress. What uni is your daughter at ? - if you try on Google - put in uni name and 'graduation photos' you may see pictures of previous ceremonies and so gauge the dress code there :)

Don't know if it helps,but I wore black trousers,cream silk blouse and silk scarf.The weather was great,warm and sunny so no jacket needed.Hubby wore smart trousers,shirt,tie.
Son whose graduation it was,turned up in shorts,trainers,shirt and tie!! yes he really did,but luckily he changed into smart trousers and shoes before the ceremony.Other guests varied between suits,flowing skirts(the women that is) and fancy blouses to traditional costumes for the various ethinic groups,it was a truly colourful day!
Son lives his life in shorts and said no-one on campus would have recognised him during the build up to the 'big event' if he had worn his trousers at the start of the day after all as he says they are not after me for my dress sense Mum just my brain!
He passed with a first and is now 2years into his PhD :D

I used to work at South Bank, and had to attend the graduation ceremonies every year as First Aider.  Most people wear the same kind of attire as is worn to weddings/christenings etc. - men in suits, women in suits or dresses. 

Completely off the subject Sweep, but what's the secret of your weight loss success?  I really desperately need to lose a few stone :( before I am a bridesmaid next year and I'm getting really depressed about it.  I've done it before and put it and more back on and would welcome any advice you can give me.  I have lost one stone so far, but all tips / advice would be gratefully received.

Well done on your weight loss, I completely understand how difficult it is and take my hat off to those who do it.  I'm sure you'll look lovely at the graduation no matter what you wear!

No Secret really just,

1 - I wanted to do it
2 - I had a goal, Son's Wedding.
3 - Three meals a day
4 - It takes time, there is no quick fix, it wont happen over night

Since the Wedding in June as I said I have dropped 2 more dress sizes - I don't want to loose anymore weight, but I wont go mad!

Thanks Sweep.  No magical solution then!  :rolleyes:  I guess we all know what to do, it's just that the doing it is so difficult.  I've not had even the teeniest bit of chocolate since coming back from holiday at the end of July, so maybe being a bridesmaid is the goal that I needed.  I'm terrified of walking down the aisle looking like the michelin man!

Wish that there was, I could market it and make mmmmmmmmiiilllliiions!!
