Is Special Yearling and Yearling the same class?
Special Yearling qualifies for some breed a crufts position.
However does Yearling ?

Special Yearling has been renamed Yearling & if your breed is in band E yes it is a qual class for Crufts. There was an announcement in a KC Gazette about the "special"being removed as it is now an official KC class

I seem to think awhile ago there was a release from the Kennel Club saying that they were officially recognising the Yearling Class as for some breeds it was now a crufts qualifier - so this would mean that Special Yearling classes could drop the Special bit - so in essence they are just the same class

Hi the KC General Committee has agreed that from Jan 2005 Yearling classes will not need to be denoted as a  "special" class when printing schedules. The agreed definition is Yearling for dogs of 12 and not exceeding 24 calendar months of age on the first day of the show.It is a qualifying class for dogs in stud book band E.

Thats brilliant thanks for replying.
I know that in our breed Special yearling qualifies, but when I saw yearling I thought I wonder if this will qualify. So thank you.

Any class which does not have a KC definition or which differs from the KC definition has to be called a "Special" class. You can still have a Special Yearling class if, eg the definition is for dogs of 6 to 24 months. That's why Crufts itself has Special Puppy & Special Junior classes because the age limits are different from the usual puppy & junior classes.

I contacted the Kennel Club just to make sure before I booked the class. This is for Manchester champshow 2005. They have told me that Yearling will not qualify for Crufts 2006. It has to be Special yearling..
So now I am confused as from what everyone has said on here it is a qualifying class. Weims are shown in E band. So SY does qualify. Where as I am told by the Kennel club Yearling does not...
Oh well..looks like post grad class then
If anyone finds out anything different maybe e-mail me please.

Strange because if all the societies go with the new agreement and not state "special" in their classification and only yearling then there wont be any  special yearling qualifying classes to enter effectively taking that qualification away again.(erm I think I've confused myself now)

Well the KC site clearly states Yearling not Special Yearling will qualify for Crufts in the E band breeds

Hi Nutkin just been to the KC website and on the page that lists qualifying classes for Crufts it now states Yearling  not special so somewhere along the line someone has made a mistake here
