OK folks, here's the dilemma.
My mum and her partner have just recently had to cope with the loss of
their beloved Rough Collie Toby who was a rescue of 15 years old.
They also have a Border Collie, Amber who is on her 5th home, is a complete fruitcake
and can be very dominant and possesive...put it like this mum is hers...
She has been spayed.

Anyhow they are missing Toby and his companionship and also the companionship that
he provided for Amber. Mum's partner has suggested thinking about a Newfie or Bernese etc.

They are both at home (both retired although 60 and below) have a medium sized bungalow & garden.
No cats (yet) but the grandchildren ranging from 3yo upto 13yo will visit their home as
occasionally will my Boxers.
They like going caravanning for short-breaks/holidays etc and the dogs always go with them.
They don't want a puppy, but would like to offer a home to an older 'dog' or one of 2yo and upwards.

Which breed would suit them & their situation best or should they be thinking of another breed?
Also if you know the Southern breed club rescue contacts of these breeds or other suggested breeds I'd be grateful.

I don't have any experience of the two breeds named, but I can't see any reason why either of them shouldnt' fit into that kind of home quite nicely.
