Ive been on here before about advice for my Dogue de Bordeaux. She is now 22 weeks old. She doesnt seem to be really growing well and she always has the runs no matter she is fed. I fed on pedigree puppy, bakers complete, eukanuba puppy for large breed, then on an american dogfood called Wonda dog. On every single one of these foods she has had problems, the pedigree made her vomit and the runs and the wonda dog now has give her the runs so bad she is going about 15 times a day and its like water and looks grey. Even the eukanuba was no good her stools were black and soft. Apart from this she is very healthy, can anyone please suggest something to me to try i have taken her to the vets 5 times already but nothing can be found. If anyone knows how tall she is supposed to be for her age or how much she is roughly supposed to weigh can they let me know. And please can somebody help me get this dog on track, i dont want this to be a life long problem. Thankyou in advance.

SHe obviously has a problem with metabolising food. What tests have your vets done? Have you had her allergy tested? it may be that she is sensitive to a number of ingredients and moving from food to food will not help UNLESS the other products do not contain the items she cannot tolerate in another.

Tohme's recommendation to have allergy testing done would definitely be my advice too.
You're obviously very anxious about your young girl and so in the meantime I think you should put her on a completely bland diet and see how her tummy is until you get the veterinary test results back. Try something like white fish OR chicken as her main protein source - but only have ONE source and not something high in fat. That way, if she has a reaction you have less things to rule out. Likewise, for bulk in her diet, add ONE source - mashed potato would be my preferrence. If her stools seem more normal after a day or so, please don't be tempted to feed any titbits, dog treats etc - they may contain something to which she is intolerant.
Good luck, please let us know how she gets on :-)

For a Bordeaux of 22 weeks I would be looking at a height of between 20-22", and a weight of around 41/2 stones, not to much weight, if she has the runs all the time there is something not right, is it soft motions or watery liquid. I would put her on rice and chicken breast to firm her motions up, but ask the vets for further investigations to be done. Is your mums dog OK, as I beleive she has a puppy from the same breeder that is rather larger than the average. Do you think that you could be measuring your puppy against hers and finding that hers may be the exeption, What exactly is her height and weight now as you have had this problem with her since she was tiny haven't you. Have you tried Burns complete or a complete for sensative tummy's.
Each food you mentioned giving your girl are very inferior pet foods imo!
As has been suggested try her on boiled chicken breast and rice or upgrade to a better commercial food which doesnt have so many suspect and undesirable ingredients.I believe people have reccomended Burns to you before, have you tried it yet? Or keep away from dry foods and try naturediet. You can not expect good health when feeding inferior foods :(
Good luck

i had the same problem with my retriever, the vet gave me a powder to give him which he used to give to pigs and calves that had stomach problems.i have never had a problem since.i feed him on bakers sensitive.if you want the name of the powder let me know.
best of luck
Had similar problems with mine bc when he was younger. We eventually had to feed on chicken and rice and gradually add food for a week, if it gave him the runs we knew he couldnt cope with it. He is now on either Burns or James Wellbeloved which seem to work for him. Each dog is different so I dont think there is any hard and fast rule to make it work.
I called the breeder and he said to put her on beta puppy chicken and rice with scrambled egg, which she has been on for 2 days and seems fine at the moment, her stools have gone harder and she actually enjoys her meal and eats it all. She is 13 inches and weighs no more than 21/2 stone my 3 year old son is heavier. apart from this she seems healthy, but im going to change my vets because he doesnt know anything about the breed he even thought she was a staff when i took her in first. I really hope she is going to be ok on this food. can you post pics on here at all id love to post one to show you who you are all helping out.
She does have one more prooblem, she is totally dog aggressive and continuously bites her lead when walking, and the only person she sticks by is me, my son and brother play with her all the time but it doesnt seem to make a difference she still only does what i say. She has always been this way,its quite worrying as i heard they were very good with kids and people.

Do you mean 13 inches tall...2 1/2 stone (approx 35 lbs) seems heavy for a dog of that height! ...although both height and weight would concern me for a dog of that size at that age...especially height. I would expect my elks(who weigh 50 lbs and are 21 inches tall as adults) to be taller than that at 22 weeks.

I had the same problem with my shar pei when I got him. He was 14 months, and as far as I could figure out his previous owners had fed him on pedigree his entire life, so the poor thing had diaorrhea for his first 14 months, along with awful skin, hair loss and an ear infection. However, the minute I started feeding him James Wellbeloved (he's on the senior/light even though he's only three as he has a problem with protein) everything has cleared up and I've never had a problem with his health since. He doesn't get any of the maufactured doggie snacks either (packed full of god knows what!), but he seems quite happy with rawhide chews, carrots and broccolli!
I hope something as easy as this will help your dog too! Good luck :-)
p.s. unfortunatley I don't know anything about how tall dogues de bordeaux are supposed to be :-(

I had the same problem with my boston's, when they were fed on chicken all they had was runny poo. Since I put them on lamb and rice their poo is very well formed.....
Glad to hear she has hardened up :)
I would aslo have the people in the family feed her and make her work for her food by telling her to sit, laydown ect and to wait till you/them say it is ok to eat. I would also have them work on some basic obedience with her, the more they are involved with her daily training her attitude towards them hopefully will be different. As for biting the lead I found when Junior did that I stopped walking and told him to drop it, I would not move until he left the leash alone....Good luck :)
She has been great on the beta and scrambled egg. She has calmed down a bit and she went for her first walk on the road yesterday. She didnt pull and never ate her lead. She did however try to attack 2 people as they went past and i had to cross the road, i dont know why she is like this with people and im finding it very hard to stop her, i hope that the more i take her out the better she will be, but i doubt she will need to be muzzled when older. I alredy make her sit and eat when i say, i spend a lot of time with her, but she would not let my brother walk her even while i walked next to him, she lay down and growled at him because she thought he was trying to take her away from me. She is a very good guard dog, but im worried if anybody ever came in the garden she would kill them or really hurt them. I was going to take her to puppy classes but she is so dog aggressive i just think it would be pointless. Is there anybody out there that maybe lives close and could do some hands on with me id pay a small fee, i just want to do everything i can to get her better she is like my other baby.

Where do you live we have Dogue de Bordeaux, if you are anywhere near Brentwood in Essex there is is Bordeaux Club Event that would be great for you to meet other Bordeaux and find other people that have had the breed for many years that could help you, if you want any more info on the meeting place let me know
