On our way home from the supermarket we called at the Chippy to take home. The wife left a few of her chips on her plate and divided what chips were left( say4 each)for our 2 Labs I said chips are two fattening for dogs the wife replied chips are not fattening for dogs as they dont cook in the fat they use to do years ago its all oil nowadays. What do YOU think!.

My dog wont eat chips either.
I dont like feeding him anything potatoe'ish though. JUst my own thing :D

I wish she was right, oh how I wish! If chips aren't fattening for dogs, then they're not fattening for people either!

JG ..don't forget...NOTHING is fattening if you swipe it from someone elses plate ;)
Ooooh my 9,000th post :D :D

I'm assured that broken biscuits don't count either! ;)

This is true :)

Labrador ~ what does your wife think they are cooked in?
I'm sure 4 chips alone won't hurt the dogs or make them fat, but remember it's the 4 chips plus the crust of your toast, plus a leftover bit of meat, plus a dropped biscuit & all the little bits that our dogs have that make them fat. :)
Chips are fattening for us too, but if we could restrict ourselves to 4 per portion we would be ok :-D

Daisy ...quality and not quantity :D :D
(PS ..I am running away and hiding now :p :p :p )

Hmm so oil is not fat?

Using my teeny weeny brain a little bit here, I *think* possibly they are distinguishing between animal fat and vegetable fat. What do you think?

Aha, you mean the much healthier polyunsaturated vegetable oils rather than say LARD :D
But unfortunately probably still as fattening, but better for your arteries :(

Whether it be Oil or Animal fat, it is roughtly just the same calorie wise. Which is why I only use frylight spray if I absolutely must fry something. Just not worth the calories to use Oil or fat.

Chips. Not a regular part of my dogs diet but many is the time I have watched the head of canine ophthalmology and micro surgery of the Potters Bar Veterinary college sitting on the floor feeding my Anna fish and chips! :) Interestingly if you read the old (1950's) Shirley's Dog Book you will find boiled potatoes was listed as part of a suitable diet for a dog. (Although not in the form of chips though!)
Regards, John
Morseman likes chips but only if they have brown sauce on and are in a paper bag on the road. Gothboys disgusting diet has rubbed off as he also loves pizza, crust and all. So why do I fork out for Burns and lovingly bake liver cake? Wish I could do cartoons on here so I could post Morseman in his hoody jumper and Burberrry baseball cap scoffing chips with his mouth open and yelling " Haw, Felix, ya bam, ye're gettin chibbed!" :D
I read something in Your Dog a couple of months ago saying that potato's weren't good for dogs - can't remember the details exactly and they've never done Glazby any harm!!
A few chips now and then in his dinner makes him a happy chap indeed!!
