Was very suprised today ....a freind went to a local LARGE rescue centre to get a dog.She chose one and walked out with it there and then...no home check!!!
Not worried about the dog...it will be well looked after but how did they know!Thought all resce centres did home checks?

When we got our older dog from Battersea, 5 years ago, we didn't have a home check. The whole family went and I took photos of the house and garden and surrounding area. I suppose we seemed nice and genuine (us :D ) and so came home with him the same day. People come from such a large area that it must be difficult to home check the large number that they have. They do check a lot - but I suppose only those for difficult to rehome dogs or people that they have doubts about. (Things may have changed now)

I know of a huge rescue centre that doesn't home check, simply because they have such a huge turnover of dogs. They have several dogs in & several dogs out every day, so they physically can not keep up the demand & home check, also they have no restrictions on area, so you could travel several miles to get a dog from there & I guess it would not be cost effective or feasable to home-check all the homes.
Far from ideal, but I've seen behind the scenes & you have to see it to believe the high turnover they have. :(

Battersea usually only homechecks if you have never had a dog before, if the dog has special needs or its a puppy.  As a rule they just like the dog to meet the whole family :)
