I made Fagan a batch of Liver cake last night because he is getting bored at obedience training and prefers to sniff the floor whilst doing heelwork   The liver cake turned out ok - just a bit difficult to get out of the baking tray   but Fagan doesnt seem overly excited about it like he does other peoples treats at training.  My receipe for liver cake is - a couple of packs of liver, chuck in a bit of flour and garlic, blend it all together then nuke it in the oven for 45 mins.  so I was wondering - does anyone have a proper receipe :D :D

Also does anyone have the reciepe for anything else like sardine cakes ?  bascially anything that will get his attention now that cheese and hotdog sausages have lost his interest

and before anyone says it - I have done a search on here and didnt come up with any actual reciepes :(

8oz Liver
4oz flour
2 eggs
Garlic to suit

I always flour the tray first ;) and only cook for around 20 minutes so it's still moist :) You can also subsitute the liver for tuna or antyhing else :D

fagan im sure could have cleaned it for you!!!

at my club,a lady makes loads of different cakes, chops & bags them up & sells them. i then buy loads & stick them in the freezer.....much easier!!!

>fagan im sure could have cleaned it for you!!!

Fagan watched the entire process of making them, even standing on his hind legs with his paws on the work top to watch the blender, he sat and cleaned up any bits I dropped whilst chopping it and bagging it - and when it came to the washing up I found him curled up on the sofa fast asleep

If I could find someone selling the stuff I would buy it - would save loads of hassle.

Another tip is to cut and lift from the tray whilst still hot ;)

This is from someone who HATES scraping burnt offerings LOL

I buy our liver cake from the W.I. ! it's organic and Spice loves it! :D The last batch came from the W.I. stalls in Winchester as I was visiting the town for a daytrip so I expect more places sell it too.
Now I have the recipe tho' I will give it a try,but I WILL LINE my tins first with greaseproof ;)

I got home last night and my lovely boyfriend had scrubbed and scraped the trays that I cooked the liver cake on - they are now cleaner than when I started - I knew he was good for something :D :D :D

I do mine in a pyrex dish which I rub with a teeny bit of veggie oil first, then cut it while its hot. It doesnt stick at all...yippee! My vets sell it and other treats, I have actually been considering asking our local farm shop if they fancy selling some for me though cos all the doggies in the village follow me round (literally) when I am carrying some, poor Leon never gets a game anymore cos all his mates are more interested in me! Whenever I make a batch I take some to the girls at work who have dogs and they have started asking me if I will make some for them and offering to pay for it...perhaps it's not such a bad idea?

Hi there

I started to make it myself when my older bc was sensitive to everything else for training.  I now help out at the training club and sell it there.  I also make pilchard cake which has gone down a storm together with tuna and I am thinking about making up some tripe cake and rabbit just for a change.  I am interested in how much other people charge but I currently charge a £1 per 100g bag.  Does that seem reasonable?

I made a large batch of sardine cake the other day, and then dried it in the oven as his lordship prefers crunchy treats.  The house still stinks of sardine and I can't seem to get the smell out of my nostrils :D  The treats should last for some time tho in an air-tight tin :D
