i went to my vet with my 8 month old chihuahua yesterday.he was there to be hipped. i nearly ran when i saw the needle. ouch. poor little thing did the cat dance. anyway i asked about his bad breath, (dog, not vet.). the vet looked in his mouth and said if the 1st teeth dont come out we will whip them out. is this usual. his other teeth have been o.k.....,vet is pressing me to have my pup castrated. it scares me. and i asked him why. he said to stop him having cancer. i said to the vet ,well surely God  intended him  to have these. even if not used. he then said. its like a woman who may have breast lumps. itis best to take them off. my husband then replied. i had better get my head chopped off then, incase i have an embolism. he didnt find it funny. what do you think is it best in your opinion. everytime we visit. he mentions a new thing i need to put my tiny baby through.... DAWN....

At 8 months he should have lost all his baby teeth. Toy breeds do tend to have more teeth problems than other breeds tho' and he should have them out if they are causing discomfort and stopping his adult teeth from emerging. Can't see why they should cause bad breath tho', unless they are decaying already or are causing inflammation/infection. As for castration - that's your decision. Obviously he won't get testicular cancer if he's done but there are other physical/mental considerations to take into account. If you have no reason to want him castrated then don't. If you feel you are being pressured into having unnecessary treatment - change your vet. There are plenty of excellent vets who don't feel the need to "sell" you things you don't want. why don't you Register then you can ask as many questions as you like?
