You need to get in touch with breeders rather than the other way around, most good breeders will want to meet up with you before deciding if they will put you on their puppy list :)

A few tips that may help in your search :

Ensure that both the sire and dam are KC registered - if they aren't, you can't be sure that you are getting a pure Malamute!

Ensure that the sire and dam have been hip-scored and eye-tested and ask to see the results.

Make sure the dam is over 2 years of age and no older than 7 - and has had no more than four litters in her lifetime

Where possible, see both parents and see how friendly they are. Mals should never show fear or aggressiveness towards people.

Ask the breeders whether they show or work their dogs.

Ensure that breeders will take the dogs back should you need to re-home for whatever reason in the future.

All reputable breeders will sell puppies with a contract. This safeguards you as well as them and gives you a chance to return the puppy if a veterinary  surgeon finds a problem. This contract will carry endorsements to stop you from exporting the dog or from breeding unless the puppy subsequently has good hip scores and eye tests. Please avoid breeders who do not sell with a contract

Hope that is helpful in some small way :)

Everything Mel said.... :)

And also, don't get the first dog you see, talk to people in the breed, breeders and non-breeders and find out about the breed, Mals are a very big dog that need alot of control, with alot of people being scared of them (how you can be scared of a dog that rolls on its back for a tickle just because its bigger then you......lol)  Also find out, like in all breeds, certain lines may not have great temperments.  Talk to the Mal owners on here, I am sure they will be happy to help! and also search this site and contact some breeders, if there are any in your area, ask if you can visit them and there dogs even if they don't have a litter due...Work will get around that you are serious to breeders who do have litters!
