I am now looking for a crate to put Mo the Lhasa Apso  puppy in when we are at shows, we have used the wire crates for a lot on years but have seen these light weight washable fabric crates, Mo do's not chew and would only be left in the crate when I show the Tibetan Mastiff do's anyone have an opinion on the Pro's and con's of this new type

I love my light and easy crate. It is a big one and I can still carry it, my show bag and two 20KG dogs in one go.  Now ay co7uld I do this with a metal crate.

Of course they are not as durable, but with careful use and a dog that does not chew or dig then they are a real boon.

I still prefere the metal ones for safty as they are alot more sturdy, but we do have one, its alot easier to carry and it is only used at shows!

For the whole purpose of why you want one, then I would say go for it!  Its alot easier to carry and makes the show even nicer with no aching arm from carrying a cage!

I have the fabric one, its great (Border Terrier) very light.  The best thing about it is nobody can push anything through it to your dog!

For a Lhasa I'd say they're great - for anything bigger then I'd go for metal ( having been joined in the ring by one of my dogs who had eaten his way through a fabric crate ) :-)

Just a quick puzzled thought why does it seem to be that the smaller the dog the more 'stuff' people need - why do you never see folk walking their small dogs into the shows ?  do they lose the use of their legs once they are under a certain height ;-)

I'd say its the same for a LOT of the bigger breeds Trevor too.  I KNOW Afghans have got legs, but you rarely see them using them except in the ring!

  I had Afghans and they were always walked from car to bench (ok so if it was wet they wore rain coat and little booties but they always walked ;)

Well most are wheeled in now!  Shame though that so many breeds are wheeled around these days, I hate seeing it.

Thats just daft isnt it, I couldnt imagine wheeling the afghans into the show thats what they have legs for, the only thing we had on wheels was their grooming table, we didnt even own a crate :D :D :D

My Lhasa walks every where even into shows they always did when I had them before, they are a hardy little dog when they are let be,but I have seen people with Afgans slung round there necks, as yet we have not wheels or grooming table you can tell I am a organised person
