I had to restore my son's computer as it kept crashing and stopped working. He was on a wireless broadband connection from my PC and since restoring his PC I cannot get his PC to connect to the internet. I have tried taking out his network card then putting it back in again with no luck. I am not sure if his network card came with an installation disk or not as I cannot find it and dont remember. I cannot connect him through my PC as it has no monitor at the moment and I am using a laptop.

Any ideas how I can get him back onto the network and get him back onto the internet ???

Hi cath check in device manager to see if the network card has been installed, if it has then no problem, if not u need to download the drivers for it from the relivent company web site. if its installed correctly u will need to go into the properties of the Local Area Connection on his pc and set up the IP address and im guessing your using ICS (internet connection shareing) if so his ip needs to be 192.168.0.2 with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1
default gateway, this all depends on how u have set up you other pc?that should solve the problem

Thank you but how can I download the driver from the internet if I cannot get onto the internet on his PC ???

You should have the drivers on a disc or floppy that came with the network card. Have a look at the instructions for the wireless network as you might be missing something that needs doing. Have you got a firewall in place? this could be blocking his attempts at gaining access to the internet.

can you not download the drivers onto your laptop and copy them to a floppy disk?

What operating system is on your sons laptop if it's xp then the drivers would of proberly been installed when you rebooted and put windows back on.

As the other's have said go to the device manager and see if there are any yellow explanation marks if not then the network card will have the drives installed. Next you need to check to see if it is enabled again this is in the device manager click the + on network adapters this will show all the network adapters. Right click the adpater in the box that opens you want to go down to properties and at the bottom it will tell you if the device is enabled.

If you still have problems disable any firewalls that you have.

Also see if the meachines can see themselfs i know this seems strange but if it can see it's self then it proberly won't be able to see any other.

You do this by going to search files folders then choose the option computers or people then input ** this is a wild card and it will find any comp on the system that is connected to it and in the same workgroup again make sure your firewall is OFF.
