please could some people give me some advice. My pup is 4 weeks today and I have been feeding her pedigree puppy tinned for a week now , She still feeds off of mum . But my question is , Should I be feeding her water ?? She is not eating much puppy food but am getting there gradually.
Cheers

I leave water available at all times for mum, so if pups want some they help themselves. :)

Hi Rachy have you not added any sort of complete food with the tin of puppy food. and leave water down for the puppy to get to. regards polly_45

Polly no all I have been able to do is give her tinned pedigree chum puppy food. This has been a struggle to get her to eat  , she is still taking it from my finger .I thought that PC puppy food would be enough with-out adding anything else which is why I chose this method. So what do you suggest !
Thanks

Hi Rachy  what i do is soak a complete puppy food and mash it up so its like a puree (but not runny) same texture as the tinned puppy food. You can add the tinned puppy food to it and she will still take it off your fingers, What kind of puppy is she Rachy?. good luck with her

Has the puppy got any of her teeth through yet if so why not rry her with something that she can knor at, if not some scraped beef or a bit of mince just to get her going.

Pups will usually start lapping water at around 4 weeks old - so now is a good time to introduce her to a bowl of water.
Single pups are usually quite hard to start weaning initally, as they are usually more than satisfied from mom! But once she gets the hang of it, there'll be no stopping her.

I would suggest if she has accepted the PC puppy tinned & is eating it, keep her on it, at least for a while - I personally wouldn't try to introduce a different product at the present time.  :)

smudgley thanks for that , As you said yes she is more than satisfied with mum as she can have all the milk she wants when she wants. So is the PC tinned puppy food I have started to wean on ok for her , I thought in itself it was a complete dog food, But think someone said it wasnt (but could of misread). Will start on the bowl of water today .
Thanks

I have seen many litters reared on PC & all done well on it.
It isn't strictly speaking a complete diet, so when she is a bit older you could try introducing a bit of mixer biscuit (soaked)
It is hard with a single pup & if you had tried the complete diets, you may have ended up, bribing her with meat anyway as the PC is palatable & has a nice (?) smell to it (nice to pups, maybe not nice to us!)
Once she is eating all her meals well - you can then consider what you want your pup on longterm. :)
