Hi Everyone,

I will be showing my 7 month old boxer bitch for the first time in a few weeks. Can anyone recomend a good mail order site where I can buy a thin showing chain and a showing lead?

Thanks so much, Aimi.

Hi Box Mad,

Still waiting for my Luxway catalogue - do they do leads as well? Would you recomend a thin leather one

We are doing Minor puppy bitch and a special puppy class ar the Mancunian Boxer Club's open show on Sunday 17/10.
Have you ever done an open show there? I'm actually quite exited. Wasn't going to enter her but was just going to watch but thought I would have a go. I know I should have taken her to ring craft from very young but I had no intentions of showing her until a week or so ago. She does well at obedience and is good with other dogs about. We are just having a problem with her stack - she keeps sitting for the bait - this is what I have previously taught her so so we are quickly un-training her! We are hoping to enjoy ourselves and I know boxer owners/exhibiters are a good lot so I hope they wont laugh at our efforts !

If you have any tips for me they would be greatly received. Do you mind me asking your affix - mine is Heybotts.

Good luck at Doncaster,
Aimi.

Hi there most importantly make sure the chain you get is very lightweight, I made the mistake of getting a much too heavy one when I started out, when I got to the match night my Boxer looked like he was weighed down with metal and everybody else had got these really fine ones, I felt a right wally, lol, I pick mine up at the show grounds Newark opens are great as there is usually a stall there. I always go for as fine as possible whilst still be able to hold your dog, I move them up to my gold snake chain at around 9 or 10 months.

You will find most Boxer owners helpful and patient but you have picked a show that will have very strong competition and a lot of big names there, perhaps you would enjoy trying a few multi breed open shows and you could get to know your local breeders and show kennels who can offer you a lot in the way of help and advice, Newark is my local Showground and the Boxer gang that show regularly there know eachother very well and you can have a right laugh there, it is much more relaxed. Your local Boxer club can also provide you with a lot of help (ours is the Trent) they have a match night once a month and usually do a little ring craft and a light hearted competition and often have a novice handler class.

Just thought as a "newbie" to showing I'd tell you how much we both enjoyed out 1st ever show. The owner of our pups sire very kindly let me borrow a show chain and lead and although Noe trotted up lovely she was a complete fidget for the judge and wouldnt stand propperly. Ah well, more practice.
I think I'm hooked, next show to go to is on 27th November.
Trying to find our nearest ringcraft class now. Anyone know how to find one?

Thanks, Aimi

Where abouts are you ?  The kennel club should have a list of ringcraft classes, but I found the best one from a recommendation from champdogs :)
