Hi
We are looking to buy a black labrador puppy mid December - pls could you call me on 07803 125775 if you are able to help. We live in Middlesex (but are happy to travel). If you are able to help I would be more than happy to provide you with further information about our home, experience with dogs, etc., so you can be reassured that your puppy is going to a good home
Many thanks
Helen

Mid December? Christmas??
Guest, most reputable breeders would prefer to keep their puppies until early January rather than let them go to their new homes at Christmas time! Mid January would be a better time to get your puppy so far as breeders/puppies are concerned. I do appreciate that you might have reasons other than Christmas - ie time off work at that particular time, but do think to see if you could change your timing - you will have better puppies around at times other than Christmas

Thanks Margot for prompt reply and sensible advice. Yep - the timing is based around the fact that my husband and I can take time off work mid December to settle a new puppy into our home. (I work from home anyhow so am there for a dog but we can be 'dog-dedicated' wc 13th December.) I'm hoping, therefore, that a reputable breeder will be persuaded to release a puppy earlier (rather than wait til Jan) .
Thanks again
Helen

Hi Helen, im sure if you find a breeder who has pups ready around that time that they will let you have one if they know you are going to be sensible about it, I think the biggest problem is the change of routine over christmas and excitable children. I have my name down for a pup which should be ready mid December (not a lab) we have a quiet christmas planned just going out for a meal, we also have the advantage of no small children in the family so hopefully pup should cope ok :)
Good luck

Hi 'blondebird' - snap on the no small children and quiet christmas front! Many thanks for your good wishes and enjoy your new puppy.

It really deos sound that you want a puppy because you want a dog, not because you want a cute little puppy for christmas, which is good, but be aware that alot of people are far from being like you, and so around december time breeders are especially careful about where there puppies go etc so just be prepared for more questions then say in july!
Also please check that the parents of the pup have been health checkd before you buy a pup!
Good luck,

If I had a litter of puppies at around the Christmas period I would be very careful who I sold them to. So saying, I have brought a puppy immediatly before Christmas and to me she really made Christmas that year! Yes it was hard work but she was into everything, unwrapping pressies, sampling mince pies and even trying the mearest sample of my malt. Watching the sparkle in her eyes at all the exciting new sights and smells something to see!
You need to really want a puppy and really appreciate just how hard work they are when they are very young. As long as you do then good luck to you.
Regards, John
