I picked up my new puppy last week along with the puppy contract, sales receipt and all the other paperwork he gave me is a new owner form for the kennel club but if I have no interest in showing and have no intention ever of using him as a stud dog so do I have to still fill it in and pay the £10 for transfer of ownership? I know its only £10 but I'd prefer to spend it on my new baby, I phoned the breeder to ask him but he is out of the country until the end of next month.
Hi guest If you send the transfer of ownership of to the kennel club. they will give you your first six weeks insurance for your new puppy free. I advise all my new puppy owners to send the form into the kennel club. For such reasons as you never know just what can happen to a pup in its first six weeks with its new family £10 is a small price to pay for a little peace of mind.

Now isn't that interesting! I always suggest exactly the opposite! I see no need to transfer the pup unless it's going to be shown or bred from (I've been endorsing my registrations for a while now) and I supply 6 weeks insurance with Petplan as I found their cover/premiums to be better than the Kennel Club policy. Maybe that's changed now??

Think for the sake of £10 it is best to make sure the dog is registered in the owners name, I know you may have a receipt for your money but unless the dog is registered to you it will be difficult to prove, should the need arise, that it belongs to you, the money could have been for any dog and you would have a job to prove ownership of that particular dog. This does not only apply to a dispute between you and the breeder I have known it become an issue between a couple in a marriage brake up.

That's a point Jackie. I do put the pup's KC Registration number on my receipts, and I don't expect the owners to have a problem with me, but I can certainly see how it could be important in the breakup of a relationship.
Maybe it's time for a rethink! :D

Until the pup is registered in your name, in the eyes of the KC it still belongs to the breeder!
