i have a two year old retriever and the past week when i put his food down for him he just ignores it until about one oclock then he will eat it.any suggestions please

my lad doesn't allows eat when his food is put down.you could try starving him for 24 hours so he is really hungry when you do put it down.maybe it will work and help him to change his meal times.

thanks for your suggestions i have tried most.i have tried taking it away and he pesters me to put it down which i do then he just looks at me but still wont touch it till later.i reckon he is winding me up.many thanks to all of you will let you know when i get some success

put his food down for 15 minutes, if it is not eaten by then, take it away and give it for next feed.

My dog was eating dry food and became slow with eating so I included water/ milk to change the consistency and this encouraged him to eat it up.

My adult Boxer is the same - I think its a case of getting bored with the same food! Since I've got the puppy he's a bit better - in fact he's just been in and pinched her supper!
What about feeding him smaller amounts and giving him a supper treat - such as sardines (in oil). Since I've got the pup thats what they both get for their supper and the big dog loves it! In fact he's getting scrambled eggs with grated cheese on a lunch time with the little one too and still managing to eat his normal food - well he still leaves some of it but he seems much happier. I suggest you try the sardines and occasional scrambled eggs. Let us know how you get on if you try it
