Hi only registered today with this site but have been reading peoples posts for a few months now and found some very useful information.  I have a 12mth old Golden Retriever who has had a lot of problems Hip Dysplasia etc.. Anyway we bathed him last night and i am worried as there seems to be an unusual amount of hair loss now.  I brush him regulary as he loves it but last night and this morning after a few strokes around his hip area the brush is full.  I will keep an eye on it but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.  After everything my poor little boy has been through i tend to be a little paranoid about any changes, prob just want to put my mind at rest.

When you say unusual - all over or just in one area ? My two are starting their autumn moult at the moment - is it just that ?

It just seemed to be around his hip area, you are prob right about the autum moult after talking to a friend last night that was the conclusion we came to.  I brushed him again this morning and it didn't seem to be as bad.  Will keep an eye on it. Thanks

My dogs are shedding clouds of hair at the moment too! When I had a lab I noticed that all the loose hair made its way to her hip area too.

When my Siberian huskies shed each time twice a year, the hair around their hips comes out the most at a time, too. They obviously shed all over, but especially around their hips and the thick fur on the back of their legs around their little bums. :) Gosh soooo much hair... Its amazing Kieron doesn't go bald after a brushing session...
