hi i was wondering if anyone could help, im hoping to buy a german shepherd of 2 yrs old, of which has lived outdoors all his life, he is a beautiful dog, its just i wouldnt know about whether he would adapt to loving indors and how easily he would housetrain, i would prefer him to live in, although i do have outdoor kennel and run, im at home most of the time poping out occasionally, for no more than couple hrs, i dont want to rush into buying him and then regret it, he lives in a buisy kennels with lots going on, where as my kennel and run is in quiet country garden, would he feel isolated, obviously he would be let out even in the house during the day so not as if he would be in there for long periods only at night. what do any of you think to this as i want the best this dog, also i dont have any other dogs, thanks

Hi Guest, go right back to basics, as if you had just brought home an 8 week old pup. Go outside with him and when he does piddles & poos, praise him as much as possible. If he makes a mistake inside, clean it up and ignore it as he does not know this is not what you want. As with any pup and adult dog coming into the home, it will take time. When I got Emma about 15months ago at 5 years old, she had been in kennels all her life, she loved being inside but it took about 4 months for her to be completely dry. Be patient, it will be worth it.
