Topic Dog Boards / General / Update on Hamish going away

Hi All

Just to update you all on how Hamish is doing, well he went on Monday to my brothers in laws, i have been phoning near enough every day to make sure he is okay, he seems to have settled in fine, he has been going out for 3 walks a day, as the couple are retired and are home all day, he has been fine at night they said that when they put him to bed they don't hear anything from him until morning when they come down and he is wagging his tail pleased to see them. He has been eating his food okay up until yesterday when they said he didn't eat anything but then he has days here when he doesn't eat so at the moment i am not worrying too much about this because it is nothing unusual!! He is a funny little chap with his food, he either wants it as soon as you put his bowl down or he is not bothered and then will just walk up and sniff and come away, i know little dogs are like this so in the 18 months i have had him i don't really take much notice of this now. But apart from that he is absolutely fine they said he is a little treasure, we are missing him terribly back home the house is so quiet without him.
At the moment my skin is no better but then it is only a week since he went tomorrow, so it is early days, we have cleaned right through taken all the curtains down and washed all his bedding so everything is clean, i am just going to see what it is like come next weekend when it will be 2 weeks since he went because i would have thought by then if it is him causing my sking to be bad that there should be some improvement if not i am going to go up and collect him as i cannot see that he will be the cause.
I will keep you all updated as to how he goes.

Glad Hamish is doing fine :)
I am keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you and hoping that you don't have an allergy to him. And yes please keeps us updated on how everything is. Best of luck for you and hamish.

I really hope its something simple that's causing your problem and not the dog.  Let us know how you get on.

Hi, glad Hamish is doing well (not sure about you though! :p ).

On your allergy issue ... have you been for patch testing?  I had it done last year and although it's not particularly pleasant (especially the not washing properly for a week bit), if they do find what your allergic to it would get you on the road to recovery much quicker.  If you haven't already had this you could get your GP to refer you.

Let us know how you're getting on.

Hi

Thanks for you reply, i am not bothered about myself missing him, i know i have got to get on with that but just as long as Hamish is okay that is what i was concerned about as he does not realise why he has had to go away, my brother went up to see his in laws today and he said he went absolutely mad when he saw him, he said that he was jumping around and talking to him, i was just pleased that he went to see him so that he could reassure me that he was okay, he said they are walking him about 4 times a day and he just loves running around in their big back garden so i am more at ease now i know he is doing okay.
I had the patch tests done back in August but they didn't really show any major allergy, they put some of Hamish's hair under 1 of the patches and there was a red patch that had come up in the 24 hours that they are on for but when i went back 24 hours again after it had been removed the irritation had gone down, so the dermatologist was not convinced that it was a strong allergy to him because he said by rights the allergy should come up more once the patch is removed but it didn't it went down!! On this conclusion he said the move him out of the house for 3-4 weeks and see if it improves, but nothing else came up on the 40 patches that he had put on my back, so we are no further advanced as to what is causing it than before i had the patch tests done. I feel sure though that after 2 weeks if my skin is no better with him being away surely by then it has proved that is isn't him, i just feel that leaving it for 4 weeks is a very long time and if there is no sign of improvement within 2 weeks will there be in 4? But then i am not sure how long it would take to see an improvement?
I had skin tests done where they prick the skin after putting some of the serum onto your arm about 6 years ago when my asthma was very bad, on having this done they tested for housedust, tree and grass pollen, cats and other things aswell, they also did dog which i was not aware of until phoning them and enquiring a couple of weeks ago, they said that i had a high allergy to grass, tree, cats and housedust which was around 5 -6 mm reaction that came up on my arm and that i had a 3mm to dog, but then since having Hamish my asthma has been fine, just my skin has been bad.
It is a mystery all round and i know something must be causing it because my skin is really itchy and sore all the time, but i don't want to part with poor little Hamish for good if it is not him that is causing my trouble.
I will let you all know about any updates, but am tempted that by the weekend if my skin is no better to go and bring him home as i feel if no news by then i cannot seem to think it can be him.
