Can anyone help I'm trying to find obedience/training classes in my area which is Rotherham, Near Sheffield- unfortunately none of the vets seem to have any new posters up re this. Does anyone have the e-mail address for the Sheffield/Rotherham GSD league as this might be the better option?- If I remember correctly no-one else was in my area on the 'where you live' thread:(
Thank You
Stacey :)

Hi

I have been looking for obedience stuff and I know I have seen a GSD obebience club in the Sheffield area(I am North Notts) unfortunately I can't remember where:(

Try going to www.obedienceuk.com, coz it could have been there I saw it. I will have a think today to try and remember:)

Failing that give the KC a call, tell them what you are looking for and they send a lovely long list!:D

Hello Kash,

Couple of numbers herewith that might help, or at least put you on the right track!

Sheffield GSD Society - Mrs Copeland - 0114.244.2316
Derbyshire GSD Club - Miss Roe - 01142.336262
Midland Counties - Mrs Henshaw - 01773.765758
Or - the BAGSD Nationwide list:- 0121.353.1841

PS. Have you also considered a mixed breed Club? Perhaps it would be helpful to view both (or more) before deciding.

Good Luck with Pup,
Denise.

Stacey,
I would go to an all breeds club for purposes of socialisation. It is amazing how many dogs get on brilliantly with their own kind, and then are toatllly socially inept when they meat other kinds of dog.

If I were you and had the time, I would atend a GDS training class and a genertal one! You can get details of KC reg Obedience clubs from the KC, but a lot of Obedience clubs are private clubs, so the vets and pet shop windopws are your best bet with them.

The non KC clubs are not necessarily 2nd class, but the people running them don't want to get involved with committeees returns and paperwork, just training dogs!

When you do find some clubs, go and sit in. when you find one you like go thre for a few weeks without a dog. It is amazing what you can learn while watching, not just training techniques, but the most common problems and mistakes the new owners make.

You can guarantee the firts things a new trainee says are how do I stop him/her biting and pulling!!! :D
