Afriend has just rung re a puppy she sold it has an undershot mouth which she knew about and told the new owners
can any one tell us as the puppy gets older will it affect its health ?eatting or will it need an operation on its mouth

Hi, of course the mouth can be undershot to varying degrees, and it depends upon the degree. The worst scenario I think would be difficulty chewing, and probably unnatural wear of the teeth. However I have an American Cocker that is quite badly undershot and he does not have any problems with eating at all. He can carry toys without dropping them and is in my opinion unaffected by the state of his mouth.

So the answer is, see if he has any trouble, my guess is, he won't.

Depends a lot on the breed of the dog.

Boxers have undershot mouths (and are supposed to).
My Boxers don't have a problem eating etc.
But their mouths aren't grossly undershot with tongues sticking out etc...
