I'm afraid not many people are keen on people under 16 walking their dogs.  I for one couldn't let you walk my dogs as they are too strong and stubborn, i won't even let my 15 yr old sister take them out without adult supervision.

Sensibly, most people that go to the trouble of getting "dog walkers",  care about their dogs ;) and by caring about their dogs would not let anybody under 18 (I wouldn't consider below this age) do it.  Sorry, I don't think that you will have much luck. Have you got any experience of dogs? Even if you have, could you control a 45 kilo dog?n I know that I couldn't at the age of 13. experience comes with age, and when you reach that age, the last thing you will want to do is walk dogs :D

I personally wouldnt allow someone to walk my dogs unless they had experience and adequate insurance. I really don't think i would allow anyone under 16years old
Sorry but I am sure most people would feel the same

Before we got our first dog(seems like agees ago now!) me and my brother(well he came for the money rather than the dog and quite often I would go on my own)used to walk a black lab for an old lady whos son my parents knew. I was probably 11/12 at the time and Chara was a lovely dog, however I was not allowed to walk her ther dog as his temperament was not as good and he was very stong. Sometimes I would walk her 2 or 3 times an evening after school, showing commitment to my parents(along with the other animals i owned at the time)I suppose. I never had any problems and got paid £5 a week, My first job and I loved it, was very said when I had to stop. However I was lucky and would never let anyone younger than 25 take our Kayla out, I think she would take the mick-as she does of one of my friends who is 17! I would trust Chloe(older, slightly more sensible)but I wouldn't truat the kids!
Sorry, have you tried the DogsTrust, as long as one parent comes along you can walk their dogs, and if you are thinking of working with animals as a career its good practical experience.

I think its a really good idea. Go ahead and do it!! i look after my neighbours dogs and im only 13 and i get paid £2.50 per dog. The owner usually gives me treats and the lead for the dog, so dont bother  buying your own. Dont listen to these old mean people :D Just do it!!

when i was younger,12/13/14 i used to walk different dogs throughtout the local area!

I was dog walking at the age of 15, it just happened cos I worked in a petshop I got asked to walk someones dog and housesit for them - then word spread like wildfire and I had myself quite a successful little business :)  I wouldnt do it now though without insurance, its not worth it these days too many people are too quick to sue.  There are only 3 people I trust with Fagan, my mum, my boyfriend and his dog sitter I certainly wouldnt let anyone under the age of 18 take him out and im not being a mean old person (im only 26 ;) ) I care for my dog.

nor am i ! actually 29 IS quite old-sob sob!!!!!

i think times have changed now!

Yaaay I'm 26 too so I'm not a mean old person either!!!!  :D  :D

Perhaps if you were to consider the types of dogs that you walked - avoid the bigger breeds that maybe too strong but you could perhaps consider walking smaller dogs for people.

When I was about 12/13 I used to walk a Jack Russell and a few yorkies for people in my street - there may just be some little old ladies with dogs as company who can't get out to walk them who would really appreciate you helping them out!!!

If you get paid for walking dogs you should have insurance & you might find it very difficult to get insurance if you are under 16

Hi guys,

As far as I am aware, anyone under the age of 16 is still deemed "a child" in the eyes of the law, so if there was an accident, the childs parents would be liable, not the child.
If the dog in question is a Pit Bull, then it is against the law (DDA) for anyone under the age of 16 to be in charge of one anyway, even if it is muzzled, listed and neutered.

I certainly wouldn't let a child take my dogs out unless it was accompanied by someone over the age of 18, but thats just me.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings :(

Ali :)

i have news for you.parents dont seem to be liable for the actions of their children, with the exception of truancy from school.
my brother was run into in his( stationary)  car by a child on a bike, caused a lot of damage to my brothers car.....but my brother could not sue the parents for the action of the child. I suspect that the parents could not have liability for their child losing a persons dog.

I suspect it would actually be the owner of the dog who would be considered liable if the dog caused damage while in the charge of the juvenile.....

Im 16 and wouldnt trust anyone but myself with my fur babies, i used to walk a golden retreiver a cocker x collie and a collie x corgi for free i did it for pure enjoyment i also found alot of people are very protective over their dogs id do nothing but panic the whole time if my dogs were out with someone as even i sometimes get a yank and nearly go flying especially now it icy. I guess it really depends on what your neighbours are like and the temprement of their dogs.
