hi,

please help everytime i take my dog out he pulls me over.
hes a labrador and very strong ive had him 6 months now and ive tried to get him not to pull me over like standing still when he gets in front of me or turning round in the other direction.
nothing is working when i stand still he will just pull harder and pull me over
i dont know what to do now.
i love my dog to bits but its making walking him very hard indeed.
please help.

Thanks.

Use a Headcollar there are lots on the market.

Halti
Gentle controller
Gentle Leader
Pullstoppa
Canny collar
Dogalter
Dogmatic

It won't stop your dog from pulling but it will stop him pulling you over.

Perhaps a training class may be in order?

i had the same problem i have a leonberger who is around 70 kg and i am only about 40kg.(the thruth) i used a dogmatic head collar and made him stay by my side his head next to my leg,so he never over stepped me,if he did i turned the other way.it has taught him not to go infront of me as he doesn't know when i will change direction.now we do the same with a normal collar and even thought he does try it on some times i still do the same.don't allow the dog to get infront of you when walking so he can't use the strength against you. i have never been pulled off my feet even though he could do it easy if he wanted to.its all about teaching the dog who leads when your out and it takes time.
you can do it if i can walk a dog thats twice the size of me i'm sure you can do the same.
good luck and just keep working on it,in time it gets better.

I can also recommend the Dogmatic, I use it with a double ended lead :)

The best collar/harness I've seen is the Halti Harness. See The Company Of Animals web site

http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/halti-harness.php

A person came to my dog club with one and I was amazed at the difference in her dog. The harness uses two leads or a special double ended lead although the person I know prefers to use two seperate leads.

Regards, John

Training class and a halti are the only solutions. I had this problem with a 45 kilo Briard, this is how it was solved. A Halti controls the head, the body follows in the same direction as the head, you control the head, you get the picture?
