My 14 month old male castrated german shepherd dog suffers from runny poo. Is this normal for GSD'S. Some people say yes and some say no. Please help!

Its not normal for any dog (GSD or otherwise) although some GSD's do suffer a medical condition (the name of which escapes me at the moment) which does produce loose stools. What are you feeding your dog at the moment?

My friend has several rescue GSDs, and two of these (and otherts in the past) have had iffy digestion, and colitis.
Her 10 year old whom had been starved as a pup did well for years on Rangers Lamb and rice, until they improved it (changed the recipe). James Wellbeloved did not work for her. She tried the chicken, but she still had fairly loose motions, but no blood! She then tried the New Arden Grange Classic Lamb and rice and she is better than she has ever been!
My GSD bitch has always suffered from bouts of loose stools and was diagnosed with colitis about 4 years ago. She can only tolerate chicken based foods and treats, anything else no matter how small will trigger an attack so I have to be really careful. You should let your vet run some tests just to see what is going on, as this could lead to your dog becoming dehydrated if it is constant.
When my bitch was first diagnosed, my vet put her on Whiskers Cat Food with rabbit !!!!!!! He has had GSD's for 30 years and said it always worked for him!!!! Has anyone else ever heard of this just out of interest??
She is now on Arden Grange Chicken and touch wood, is doing ok....
Hope this helps you a little,
Gabrielle

I had a couple who were like this and they did well on tins of Chappie, if you don't like dry food you could try that. Jackie H

Thanks pam for that, i have been looking for somewhere else that sold it cheaper, rather than getting it from the vets all the time, even on the hills stand at crufts said the vets was the only place i would get it from.
