....dogs can remember their siblings and their mum? i ask this because a couple of weeks ago we took Bruce along to the country show near us, he ignored every dog that went passed us and when we were stood talking to someone he pulled me over to somebody else and their black lab, their black lab turned out to be one of my puppies (bruces brother) who we hadnt seen since he left at 9 weeks old, also Bruce and Bo play together all the time but Bo hasnt seen Tess for some time, until for all my sins i decided to take 3 labs and a spaniel out for a walk all at the same time when Bo saw tess she was all over her licking her face as she did when she was a pup, so what do you think do dogs remember their families?

At work we currently have 2 litter mates, who haven't seene each other for approx 18 months.  They don't behave any differently with each other than with any of the other dogs.  I have seen this on 3 or 4 occassions in the past year or so, so in my experience no they don't :)

I recently had one of my bitches pups back for a weekend whilst new owners went away and her mum didn't like her - she growled at her more than once so we kept them apart. I think it was becasue we have since aquired another pup and mum has adopted it so saw her own pup returning as a threat to the adopted pup? So no I don't think they recognise each other in the same way as humans.

Don't know about dogs remembering siblings and mum, but... I was at an open show with my lab, waiting by the ring for our turn. Lots of dogs around, coming and going etc... She suddenly pricked her ears and stared intently at a dog approaching us along the aisle, then got up to greet it.

Turns out it was a dog she hadn't seen for months who used to go to ringcraft with her when they were puppies.

She knew that dog. The owner said she could see the change in my dogs expression as she saw her dog.

My Mia, if she see's any of her younger sisters (Same mating but younger) gives them her 'dominant' sister bit and then she's happy....she doesn't do it with any other bitches! 

Our black lab bitch meets her sister possibly each month, and the two of them greet each other like they do no other dog.
