HI I HAVE A BOXER CALLED KATIE WHO WAS DUE TO HAVE HER PUPPIES LAST WEDNESDAY BUT SEVEN DAYS LATER STILL HAS NOT HAD THEM YET. I HAVE TAKEN HER TO THE VETS ON MONDAY TO GET HER CHECKED OVER BECAUSE WHEN SHE'S IN THE HOUSE ALL SHE'LL DO IS LIE DOWN LOOKING EXHAUSTED WONT LIFT HER HEAD WHEN YOU COME TO HER BASICALLY SHE WILL JUST LIE THERE ALL DAY WITHOUT GETTING UP, SHE IS NOT NESTING, HER TEMP HAS STAYED BELOW 100 FOR A JUST OVER A WEEK NOW, SHE'S BEEN ON AND OFF FOOD, BUT WHEN I WANT HER TO GO OUTSIDE TO GO TO THE TOILET SHE PERKS UP. THE VET SAID IF SHE HAS NOT HAD THE PUPS BY TODAY SHE WILL MORE THAN LIKELY HAVE TO HAVE A C SECTION. CAN ANYBODY GIVE ME ADVICE AS TO IF THEY HAVE KNOWN ANY OTHER DOG TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS TOWARDS END OF PREGNANCY AND WHAT HAPPENED ANY ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED.
I would go to my vet and insist on a c-section without delay. Are you sure about your dates? You bitch and her puppies are in real danger, if she is this far overdue. I wouldnt have let my bitch go more than two days, a friend has just lost an entire litter bar one, when her bitch went seven days over. The pups were too large for her to pass naturally, became stuck in the birth canal and died. I am sorry but you must act NOW to save your bitch!!!! Good luck and keep us posted

I would either insist on your vet today regarding inducing her, or talk to him/her about about having a c-section, sometimes an injection of oxytocin is all that is needed to help them along a little, at the time she was mated does not really mean that she actually got pregnant on that particualar day, but if in serious doubt call your vet without any delay.
Hi
i may be wrong here so i would appreciate other peoples input, but ive always belived oxytocin shouldnt be administered until a puppy has been born as it can cause uterine contractions and cause a unopened cervix to rupture.

How many matings did you have? Are you sure of your dates? Is there no chance that another dog could have got to her a week or so after the "official" mating.
If dates are definite, I can't believe your vet can let your girl go so long without doing a C-section. Has he listened to the puppies' heartbeats? Are you in touch with the owner of the stud dog you used, because I'm surprised he or she isn't pushing you to do something. I do hope everything is OK, but please don't delay any longer.
I'm pretty sure that Oxytocin can be given before any puppies have been born, but the cervix has to be open before it is given.

My vet has induced a couple of my bitches quite safely with oxytocin which is also given with a shot of calcium.

My friend had a litter of springers that were a week overdue by dates from first mating. All went well in the end. Remember that if the bitch is mated several days apart this can affect dates.
Of course it is important to liaise with the vet at times like this and keep a very very close eye on the bitch.

Thanks for the reply from all of you. Just to let you know that she had a couple of matings so it looks like the fell pregnant from the latter that is probably the reason why i thought she was a week overdue from her first mating, however i was in constant contact with the vet for that week she nearly did have to have a c section yesterday but her waters broke and she went on to have 5 healthy bitches at home. She did not pant, dig, make a noise she just delivered them as quiet as a mouse, i then helped pups out of the sac tied off the cords and put them to suckle on katie but after 15 mins of having her fourth pup i made her go outside to the toilet, as soon as i put her out the fifth pup came out onto the ground, i quickly picked up the pup brought her into the house and had to revive her as she was lifeless but i eventually brought her round. SIGH OF RELIEF. Not bad for my first time at helping a bitch to whelp lol
Wrxsti, I'm so glad to hear that everything is okay with the new mum!! I've been reading this thread, hoping for good news but with no experience to help so am very glad that mum and all pups are okay!! :D
Keep us posted as to how the puppy's get on - I have a 2 yr old boxer and remember only too well the puppy days!!

Oh thank God, I am so relieved for you! Congratulations you must be elated, my pups are just fleeing the nest now at eight weeks and I'll miss them, but I'll never forget the joy and excitement when they were delivered :D. I had to break all the sacks for my bitch too, as she was more interested in eating the afterbirths  Now the fun really starts ;)
