Hello,
We are looking for a Pug bitch puppy. Black, fawn, will condsider either.
We are be quoted up to £800.00 and really only have £300/£400 to spend. We bought a puppy in 1998 for £400, have they really gone up that much? Any breeders out there with some ideas/help?
Many thanks,
Megan Belmont

Unfortunately £800 does seem to be about the going rate at the moment. I know because a couple of sets of friends are looking for pugs at the moment.

It does seem suprising that the price has doubled in four years. Are pugs difficult to breed or are they in vogue at the moment ? What is the mechanism which decides how much a pup of a certain breed is worth ? (Breeders please note I'm not criticising anyone for the price they charge for a pup)

My friend has a couple of pugs that must be about 18 months to two years old now and she had to pay about £800 for each one. I think part of the reason they are more expensive than other breeds is that they have quite small litters and they are quite popular at the moment.
