We don't go away very often but when we arrived back to collect our Afghan Hound from the Boarding kennels we usually use he had nipped the kennelmaid. He has been left there before and been fine although we have warned them that he is temperamental and they are careful with him. He has never done this before. We are very worried about this and are now thinking that we will never get away again. Afghan Hounds can be quite aggressive and we wondered if there are any kennels that specialise in this type of dog. We wouldn't like to take the risk of leaving him anywhere else. We'd be grateful for any help KM
Rather than looking for boarding kennels that specialise in dealing with aggressive dogs, perhaps you need to focus on what is causing the problem. I must admit I didn't think Afghans had a bad name as far as behaviour is concerned. It's possible that your dog might be suffering from fear aggression - perhaps your vet might be able to offer advice or refer him to a reputable behaviourist.
Mmmmm, tricky really, as I manage a boarding kennels, a dog that had bitten us would not be welcome back! You say the dog can be this way, so really it would be unfair to expect anyone to care for him whilst you are away because nobody wants to get bitten! How about taking your dog on holiday with you? Dawn.
