Is there a rule, for dog shows, which applies to a bitch in season? Just wondered about this as I have a show in 2 days and my bitch has just started her season.

In the Uk there is no rule preventing the showing of an in season bitch at conformation shows, but definatel;y not allowed at Obedience (would suppose Agility and Working/ Gundog Trials also, but not sure).

It will not make you popular with the exhibitors of male dogs, but does seem to be quite common practice among some breeds where the exhibitors are quite open about their bitches condition.  In other br4eeeds it would appear that a lot of bitches have jsut come in on the way to the show :D

A lot of people will just keep quiet and keep their bitch deodorised and out of the way as much as possible.  Some other people will be very against, while others will loudly complain, but will still bring their own bitch out.

I would think that at any given show there are likely to be in season bitches about, if not in your own breed then in others.

Nothing will really fool an experienced dog, but in the first couple of days those won't be that interested in ehr anyway.  Chlorphyl tablets made by sherleys, called bitch deoderant tablets are good, and you can also by bitch sprays, taht are a femionine deodorant with a strong lemony scent that will tell everyone you have a bitch in season, and some males get to know the smell of this and know too:D

If she is not loosing a lot then just give her a good clean with baby wipes and spray the bitch spray on ehr hindquarters if you really think it worth the hassle, and you are willing to brook the possible disaproval of other exhibitors.  The first few days are usually not the problem, many dogs are worse about a bitch that has just finished her season, and taking a bitch during the most receptive part of her season (8 to 20 days) is most unwise and likely to be pointless as she will not show well, and the males will be going nuts.

Mabel came into season within minutes or arriving at Darlingtonn last year!  Being a pug it was very noticeable, so she spent a quiet day in her cage tucked into a corner, with 2 fans on to keep her cool.  Even so several passing dogs had a good sniff thorugh the bars!

I have shown by bitch at the start of her season in the past and have used Bac to Nature 'Bitch Spray' around her nether regions.   It doesn't smell of anything and she's never been bothered by passing dogs.   However, I wouldn't want to take her at the height of a season or leave her on the benches.

I know of one bitch (normally very attractive to dogs :rolleyes: ) given bitch deodorant tablets and wiped down with TCP on a wet wipe (also bathed and all bedding freshly washed) and no dog turned a hair at the show - even the one normally totally obsessed with her having said that she wasn't ready to stand - that might have been a bit much ;)
